chose to shower their choicest praises on their hero

In parliament, Nehru had a habit of delivering long
speeches about Science and Technology (prepared
beforehand and read out of sheet).

Nehru's speeches gave him the image of an ultimate

science visionary. Nehru once delivered a very long
speech in parliament on atomic plants

NM Lingam was Congress MP from Coimbatore. To

impress his master, he asked Nehru a simple
question.

Lingam: Sir, is the Atomic power plant uranium based

or thorium based?

Science visionary Nehru: I can't answer that question.

It is very technical.I may slip, I am not a Tech guy

Nuclear Programme".During those days, Nuclear
Programme was still in its nascent stage and it
required funds as well as organization.

Homo Bhabha asked Nehru for these provisions in

Five Year Plan and even offered to meet Nehru

Nehru's response to Homi Bhabha- "It is very late to

make any change in the draft of five year plan.

You don't need to come now. I am busy. I am going

away to Kashmir. There is a threat of general strike"

But neither the Nehru Govt nor the Osmania

University was willing to take up any responsibility.
The project was indefinitely stalled and soon forgotten

As a result, many of country's foremost scientists

elongated their career way past the retirement age.
Nehru personally had to write letters to dismiss
overage scientists
