Customer community setup (cheatsheet)

How to setup your customer community using Facebook groups

A customer community is a Facebook group where your customers can collaborate, ask for
help, provide help and gain visibility on how other people are applying the programs lessons in
the real world. This is a crucial element of a successful program. Here’s how to set yours up:

Instructions

1. Login to your personal Facebook profile here.

2. From the left hand side menu, click “Groups” and then, on the top right hand side, click
“Create Group”.

3. Name your group “Your Product Name”, select privacy as “Closed Group”, check the “Pin to
shortcuts” box at the bottom and then create your group.

4. Once you’ve setup your group, you can add a cover image at the top of the screen. I suggest
adding a nice image with your groups name on it. You can also select an icon for your group,
find one that you like and fits with your style.

5. Add a description for your group that says what it is and how it works etc. If you want to see
how I configured the Consulting Accelerator group, click here.

6. Create a post that welcomes people to your group and tells them how it works and what they
should be focusing on, it’s a good idea to include an image within that post. Once you’ve
posted it in the group, “pin it” to the top of the group as an announcement so that it stays
there at all times reminding all members how things work. To see how I did this with my
Consulting Accelerator group, click here.

7. Once you’ve completed the above steps, you Facebook group is setup and ready to go!

8. Go ahead and add your first customer(s) to the group immediately. Don’t worry about there
not being any members in it or it not having any posts, this is how all new communities start.
Add them immediately and with time this group will grow into a powerful community.

9. For more information on running the day-to-day operations of your Facebook group, refer to
Week 3’s module called “Program operations”. This module covers the operations side of
things and I break down the rituals, habits and routines you should use there.
