Addition of Fraction Numbers

Basic knowledge of Addition of Fraction Numbers


Make use of LCM ( least common multiple )

Recalling how to determine LCM


Example:
LCM of 12 and 18
One of the ways:
(Remember Prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, . . . )

12 = 2 x 2 x 3

18 = 2 x 3 x 3

LCM  2 x 2 x 3 x 3 ( the same one was written once )

= 4 x 9

= 36

Example problems with adding ordinary fractions:

Method 1

Equate the denominator by determining the LCM of the denominators of the fraction
number to add. LCM of 12 and 18 is 36, then the problem is changed to:

Method 2

Equate the denominator by multiplying the denominators.

Problems example :

= (must be simplified)  =

We choose the method that we think is easy, method 1 and method 2 have advantages
and disadvantages of each.
