LESSON REVIEW (5 minutes)

1. Identify the contributions of the Pagsasakatutubo mula sa labas (indigenization from without) in the development of
Sikolohiyang Pilipino.
Answer:

Pagsasakatutubo mula sa labas or indigenization from without refers to the process of adapting and transforming foreign concepts and
theories to fit the cultural context of the Philippines in the development of Sikolohiyang Pilipino. This approach recognizes the value of
Western psychological theories and concepts while acknowledging the need to adapt them to reflect the unique cultural experiences of
Filipinos.

One significant contribution is the exposure to diverse perspectives: Integrating foreign knowledge into Sikolohiyang Pilipino can
expose Filipino psychologists to various perspectives and ideas that can enrich their understanding of human behavior and mental
processes.

ENUMERATION

1. Enumerate the eight levels and modes of social interaction that was identified by Santiago and Enriquez (1976).
Answer:

In order to comprehend Filipino culture, Santiago and Enriquez (1976) developed eight levels and
modalities of social interaction. The followings are these levels and modes: Pakikipag-kapwa-tao refers to
relating to others as equals and treating them with respect, empathy, and compassion. Pakikipagpalagayang-
loob refers to the process of establishing trust, rapport, and mutual understanding with others. Pakikisama, refers
to the idea of being able to work and cooperate with others, despite individual differences and conflicts.
Bayanihan, refers to the idea of working together to achieve a common goal or objective. Pagtitiwala sa sarili
refers to the idea of having confidence in one's abilities and decisions and asserting oneself when necessary.
Hiya, refers to the idea of being sensitive to the opinions and expectations of others, and avoiding behavior that
could bring shame or dishonor to oneself or others. Utang na loob, refers to recognizing and repaying obligations
and debts of gratitude to others, particularly those who have helped or supported us. Damayan, refers to
providing emotional, social, and material support to others in need and receiving support in return.
2. Give two (2) "evil" characters in Philippine interpersonal relation.
Answer:

Like in any other culture, there are some negative patterns of behaviour and mentalities that might harm
interpersonal relationships in the Philippines. One example is the “crab mentality” of the Filipinos, which refers
to the tendency of some individuals to pull down or undermine others who are perceived to be more successful or
talented. This behavior can be viewed as negative as it can create an environment of jealousy, competition, and
animosity among individuals. Another is the term “balimbing.” This term is used to describe someone who is
perceived as disloyal or untrustworthy, often because they are seen as switching sides or allegiances for personal
gain. This can be damaging to relationships, as it undermines trust and makes it difficult to work together
effectively.

LESSON WRAP-UP (5 minutes)

Teacher directs the student to mark (encircle) their place in the work tracker which is simply a visual to help students track how much
work they have accomplished and how much work there is left to do. This tracker will be part of the student activity sheet.

You are done with the session! Let’s track your progress.
