The maintenance of auxiliary blowers.
Section Chief N. Inoue
Drawn By Y. Fukuoka
ENGINE TYPE S26MC, L/S35MC, S42MC
3rd revision: Revision: Addition of the life of blower side bearing / P2

The constant pressure turbo-charging engines have auxiliary blowers to supplement air capacity
(intake air) shortage at start and low load.

Here, we would like to inform you of cautions for maintenance of auxiliary blowers, please refer to
this document for your operation.

1. Cleaning of the impeller. Blade

Back plate
• Regular cleaning of the impeller is necessary Retaining
because amount of sludge accumulated on the ring
impeller might be increased with the passage of
time depending on its running condition. We
would recommend that the blowers should be
cleaned before the thickness of accumulated
sludge is over 2 mm as a standard.

• The parts ( mark on the Fig.-1) should

be cleaned carefully, where sludge accumulates
easily such as welded corner between the blade
and the back plate, or the blade and the
retaining ring.

• Sludge must be removed uniformly to avoid

weight unbalance on the impeller.

Fig. - 1

2. Grease up for bearing.

• The opened ball bearing is applied on the pulley side and blower side.

• The initial charge for each bearing is about 80 g. And it is necessary to charge grease
about 10 g per 1000 hours.

• Grease should be replaced once a year.

• The sealed ball bearing is applied on the motor. So, it is not necessary to charge and
change grease.

3. Exchanging of bearing.
• The opened ball bearing on pulley side and blower side should be exchanged with new
one, if abnormal sound and/or abnormal vibration might be brought.
3rd revision: Generally, the life span of this type is 3 years.

• The sealed ball bearing on the motor should be exchanged with new one before
exceeding about 20000 hours life span.

4. Exchanging of V belts
• Generally, the life span of this type is 20000 hours. But, there is possibility that the life
span of it will become shorter due to actual condition. (slipped by poor tension or a lot
of start-stop for low speed )

5. Disassembling • assembling the fan.

* Please refer to attached section.

5.1 The disassembling point.

1. Turn off the electrical source for the motor starter. (To lock the switch of the starter for safety.)
2. Remove the belt cover (17).
3. Remove the V – belt (16).
4. Remove the suction duct.
5. Remove the suction corn (8).
6. Remove the bolt (6), washer (7) and lock plate (5).
7. Set the impeller tool on the impeller boss (20).
8. Remove the impeller (4) from the shaft (13).
9. Remove the V – pulley (21) from the shaft (13).
10. Remove the bearing box (10) and the shaft (13) with uniting.
11. Remove the shaft (13) from the bearing box (10).
12. Remove the bearing (13) from the shaft (13).
13. Remove the bearing (12) from the bearing box (10).
14. Remove the oil seal ring (14) from the bearing box (10).
15. Remove the motor (19) from the motor stand (18).

Cautionary items in case of disassembly.

• Confirm match-mark and stamp its marking before disassembling.
• In the case when the bearing is disassembled, avoid a direct hammering on the bearing.
• The direction of screw of shaft applies that the screw is tightened with rotation.

5.2 The assembling point.

The assembling way should be reversed with the
disassembling way.
To be applied the anti-seize on the shaft when the
impeller is assembled.
Check the clearance 1~2.5 mm between the impeller Clearance : 1~2.5 mm
and the suction corn. (Refer to Fig. - 2)

Fig. - 2

5.3 The remark for re-assembling.

• Re-assembling is done under the same way as disassembling.
• Rotational direction is checked to correspond to the caution plate.

There might be a possibility to have the trouble on the main engine (refer as follows), and at
worst, the main engine couldn’t start, if the auxiliary blower is misassembled.
• It needs a long time to pass the barred range (load up).
• There is abnormal (much) discharging of scavenging drain.
• There is abnormal wear of cylinder liner at lower part.
• The over load limit works on the auxiliary blower.

6. Centering of V-belt
The centering of V-pulley is conducted with respect to the fun being driven by the V-belt. The
parallelism of pulley is to be within 1 mm per 1000 mm (Refer to Fig. - 3)

Fig. - 3

The tension of V-belt should be adjusted by the flexure (δ: mm) with load (P: kg) on the middle
of V-belt. (Refer to Fig. - 4)

Fig. - 4

Operate the fan during a week after adjustment in case of the V-belt renewed and the tension
is to be readjusted after fitting of the V-belt.
Refer to the instruction book (VOL. 4 COMPONENT NO. 2: AUXILIARY BLOWER
INSTRUCTON MANUAL) about the flexure and the load.
