0 Method Statement for FCU Installation

4.1 Objective

This Method Statement serves to document the procedure for the installation and testing
of Fan Coil Unit (FCU) on site.

4.2 Selection

FCU shall be selected based on capacity stated in tender specification.

4.3 Material and Machinery

Material
(a) Fan Coil Units
(b) Angle Irons
(c) Hanger Rods
(d) Bolts & Nuts
Machinery
(a) Tools and equipments
(b) Chain blocks or other lifting equipment

4.4 Submission

All material and installation method statements shall be submitted and approved to the
respective consultant for approval prior to installation works.

4.5 Manufacturing

All manufacturing shall be carried out off site in accordance to the factory quality
procedures.

4.6 Transportation, Storage and Handling

FCU shall be transported via lorry to site protected against the element of weather.

4.7 Installation

4.7.1 Installation Process

Before any installation work at site is carried out the reference line (gridline x, y location and
the height from the finished floor) of the cable supporting system must be coordinated and
confirmed by the Project Supervisor, Resident engineer and the Main Contractor Site
Engineer.
FCU shall be supported at 4 location. Length of hangar rods and size of FCU should be
used to determine the distance between hangar rods. FCU should come with extension
piece if necessary. Positions of anchor bolts are marked on the slab above prior to
drilling. Anchor-bolts are tightened with the mild steel channel if the loading weight too
heavy .The hangar rods are then bolted onto the channel. The FCU is hung onto the 4tie
rods with rubber pad.

Pipework shall include the necessary fittings, valves, strainers with consideration to
straight length requirement for control valves.

Piping shall be installed in accordance to the Method Statement for Chilled Water Pipe
Installation.

Ductwork shall be installed in accordance to the Method Statement for Ductwork.

Electrical shall be installed in accordance to the Method Statement for Electrical.

4.7.2 Installation of secondary drain pan and drain pipe

 Secondary drain pan shall be install and to be ensure to cover FCU and all the
manual and control valves.
 The drain pipe must have a downward slope.
 To mount below the floor slab or against the wall. The bracket / rod size shall be
3/8”.
 If run the drain pipe by surface, the drain pipe shall be close cell thermal
insulation type.
 If run the drain pipe by conceal, the drain pipe shall not be insulated (both for
horizontal or vertical part).
 Condensate drain pipe shall be installed with slight gradient to allow gravity flow
of condensate water.
 All FCU connection shall have water trap (U trap) and connected to the floor trap.
U trap will be install near FCU at high level.
 All the condensate drain pipe for FCU shall be connected / discharge to the
nearest floor trap.
 Refer to the next page for the typical chilled water connection to FCU with
control valve c/w condensate drain pipe, drain pan and U trap location / position.

4.8 Quality Control

Quality Control shall start from the factory, delivery until installation.

Quality Control shall include the following activity:

a) Checking of FCU for any damage to coil, dents improper sealing etc.
b) Checking of installation and connection to ductwork and pipework.
c) Checking of drain pipe installation and flow test.
d) Checking of individual FCU operation and T & C.
