1. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR CIVIL WORKS
All civil works shall be executed as per CPWD specifications. In case the CPWD
specifications do not include, relevant IS codes will be followed.
In case the item is not covered in CPWD specifications or IS codes, then detailed
specification for the same based on good engineering practice and will take the
approval of Engineer-in-Charge of ANPARA TPS, for such drawn up specification
prior to commencement of that particular item. The detailed specification for such
items will also cover Industrial safety measures and environmental aspects.
1.1Specific Design Requirements:
The special requirements for design of different structures are as follows:
1 Groundwater table is considered at 1.0m below natural ground level.
2 Net allowable bearing capacity of the soil assumed to be 8.0T/sqm at 2.0m
below natural ground level.
1.1.1 Water Retaining Tanks & Sumps
a) Generally design shall be as per IS codes.
b) Concrete structures retaining wastewater but not unit process structures shall
be lined with high alumina cement mortar of 20 mm minimum thickness.
c) Cement and concrete mortar exposed to soils and groundwater shall be made
using a cement suitable resistant to sulphate attack.
d) The design of the tanks shall be done for tank empty & tank full conditions
considered requisite loads and pressure as laid down in various codes.
e) The tank full condition shall be to the top of the tank in spite of the condition
that the maximum water will not rise to that level especially for sumps and other
similar structures.
f) All Construction shall be in minimum M25 concrete. However, in case of very
small sized construction all other materials may be used with permission of EE.
g) Construction joints in floor slabs of liquid retaining structures shall be provided
as partial construction type as per IS 3370 i.e. with continuity of reinforcement
without water bars.
h) All Vertical Construction shall have water stops of neoprene of 225mm x 6mm
as per BIS.
i) The water retaining tanks shall be made fully water proof using chemicals or
any other waterproofing system.
j) The tanks will be tested for water tightness as per procedure defined in BIS
3370/456.

1.1.2 Building Structures
a) Architectural Design shall satisfy all requirements of function, aesthetics,
maintenance, durability environment etc.
1.2.2 Disposal
The disposal of excess earth to suitable location also be taken care with the
approval of Engineer-in-charge. If the excess/surplus excavated stuff is not
required for back filling or developing low lying area, he same shall be
required to be transported outside the ETP site and disposed of at an
authorized disposal site.
1.2.3 Filling: The filling material shall be best locally available which satisfies
requirements of stability, strength, compatibility, no long-term
settlements. For filling the source of sand earth fill should be
identified.

1.3.6 Concrete Reinforcement:
a) Concrete Reinforcement Material
Re-bars of tested quality only will be used. The variety of steel to be
used be high strength deformed steel bars as per IS 1786. The source
of re-bars shall be approved by Engineer-in-Charge, TPS,
b) Concrete Reinforcement Standards
Adopt provision of following publications and reference included there in:
1 IS 432 (Part –I)
2 IS 1139
3 Is 1/86
4 IS 2/51
5 IS 9417
6 SP: 34 (S & T).
NOTE: Above publication should be latest edition and containing latest
amendment.

1 Hot dip galvanized coating of 85 micrometer nominal thickness.
2 Sealed sprayed zinc coating of 150 micrometer nominal thickness.
e) Bolts, nuts, screws, washers and other fasteners shall have either:
1 Hot dipped galvanized coating
2 A sherardized zinc coatings
f) All structural steel work should be carried out as per guidelines of IS
code of practice 800 1984 and SP: 6 ISI Handbook for Structural
Engineers.
i) IS – 226 for structural steel
ii) IS -1161 for steel tubes
iii) IS-4923 for rolled steel section.
1.4 Masonry
1.4.1 All bricks locally available best quality burnt clay bricks shall conform to IS
1077-1986.
1.4.2 All brick work should be carried out as per code of practice IS – 2212-1962.
1.4.3 The bricks shall be of class designation 7.5 or above.
1.5 Finishes:
1.5.1 Plastering/Painting
Whatever not indicated all internal and external surface should have cement
plaster finishes:
External plaster will be of grit wash for administrative/control whereas, other
building will have plaster in CM 1:6 and Internal plaster in Cm 1:6

ii) Internal walls of building: 2 or more coats of Oil bound Distemper achieve
even finish. Colour to be approved by Engineer-
in-Charge TPS.
iii) MCC Room /Operators; 2 coats of oil bound Distemper over a coat of
Room& Operators room cement primer. &
Chemical Lab.
iv) Laboratory & Chemical: With 6 mm thick Glazed Tiles up to 2.1 m ht
Preparation Area/Toilet from the FFL.
v) Water Retaining Structures
External Finish. : 2 coats of cement paint over a coat of cement
primer. The colour of External wall shall be as
per the approved colour as directed by
Engineer-in-Charge TPS.
vi) All liquid retaining structures
Internal. : Epoxy coating with 2 coats of bitumasticepoxy.
1.6 Flooring
Flooring shall be as follows:
i) All floors MCC Room /Operators Room & Operators room & Chemical Lab-
Mosaic colored floor tiles laid in white cement.
ii) Floor of Chemical Room & Chemical Lab – Kota or suitable acid resistant
stone, properly polished.
iii) Floor of Public Areas – Polished Kota or 8mm thick ceramic floor tiles of
approved color and make.
iv) All walkways & pathways open to sky – Finished with pre-cast CC
chequered floor tiles of non skid type.
v) Stairways – Chequered with non-skid pre-cast tiles.
vi) Other Area – Cement Concrete floor in 1:2:4 flooring 50mm thick with glass
strip Base for flooring shall consist of brickbats 50 thick, layers of sand and
PCC 1:5:10 wherever required.

1.8 Plinth Protection
Plinth protection of 1m wide around all buildings, tanks etc, shall be provided with
CC 1:4:8 100 mm thick super imposed by 75 mm CC 1:2:4 (m-15).
All doors & Windows and ventilators, shall be of hot rolled steel sections, rolling
shutters or grills finished with two coats of synthetic enamel, oil point over a coat of
primer, glazing in windows and ventilators to be of 4 mm thick glass, steel doors to
be partly glazed and partly paneled i.e. half glazed and half paneled.
Sanitary & Plumbing works for buildings shall be done using heavy C.I. pipes for
soil & waste water and GI pipes (medium) for plumbing. All fixtures shall be
parryware/Hindware make.
1.11 Electrical Works for building:
Minimum 2mm thick PVC conduit will be used in roof and 1.5mm in walls of
minimum 20mm dia. Conduits and wiring will be of Astral Poly Technik Ltd./
Finolex Industries Ltd./ Responsive Industries Ltd. makes only. Thickness of wiring
MCB and switches etc to be used shall be as approved in Engineer-in-Charge
TPS,

4 Safety consciousness to be promoted by effective internal communication,
signs and media.
5 Safety performance shall be easily audited during operation and
maintenance.
6 All accidents or potential serious incidents to be reported and investigated.
7 Routine requirement to enter confined spaces to be eliminated, where
practicable.
8 Safe access to all working areas to be provided. Concrete slab over wet
wells, tanks and chambers shall have double steel reinforcing.
9 Lifting eyes and bolts for slabs to be stainless steel or any other durable
and non-corrosive material.
10 Protection against falling to be provided, where the drop exceeds 1.5 m.
11 Where the drop exceeds 2.0 m, edge protection to be provided.
12 Power driven machinery to be guarded.
13 Within plants and installations, all wells, sumps, channels. Chambers, tanks
etc., containing liquid shall be covered, walled and railed.
14 Electrical equipments and controls to be protected from unauthorized
access.
15 Individual electrical drives to be capable of being isolated and locked off.
16 Electrical motors should be rated as continuous run.
17 Junction boxes for submersible pumps and float controls shall be above
floor level not in the wet well.
18 Major hazards to be identified and posted on site.
19 Protection against countermeasures against spillage of dangerous
chemicals to be provided.
20 Appropriate training for the end users to be identified and stipulated in
construction and procurement documents.
21 All equipment to be regularly checked and prominently marked accordingly.
22 Safety information and operating documents to be provided by suppliers.
23 All electrical equipment in sumps, wet wells, inlet channels, inlet chambers,
cited below coping level to be explosion proof.
24 Lighting, appropriate to the needs of the end user, to be provided in working
areas.
25 Emergency contact list, showing telephone numbers of key personnel and
emergency services during office hours, to be circulated to all parties
involved in the project.

26 All treatment plants, installation and construction sites shall be provided
with perimeter fencing adequate to protect the public from entry. All fencing
shall be securely fixed and inspected.
27 All treatment plants, installations and construction sites shall be adequate
warning signs at or near the perimeter.
28 Access to construction sites shall be controlled to prevent unauthorized
access.
29 Any confined space requiring routine person entry, which contains
wastewater, sludge or other foul water to be ventilated.
30 Safe lifting is unrestricted areas is 16 kg. For heavier objects and/or in very
tight locations, provision of crane or access for truck mounted crane to be
made.
