A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7


May 8, 2023 (10:00 AM –11:00 AM)

I.OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates an understanding of contemporary Philippine literature as a
means of responding to the demands of the global village; various extended text
types; lexical and contextual cues; appropriate and polite oral language, stance, and
behavior; and use of imperatives, prepositions, verbs, and wh-questions.
B. Performance Standard:
The learner transfers learning by explaining the need to be cooperative and
responsible in today’s global village; using appropriate strategies to comprehend
extended text types; using lexical and contextual clues to understand unfamiliar words
and expressions; using imperatives, prepositions, and appropriate and polite oral
language, stance and behavior in various information-sharing formats.
C. Learning Competency:
EN7LT-II-a-4
Discover the conflicts presented in literary selections and the need to resolve those
conflicts in non-violent ways.
D. Learning Objectives:
The learners should be able to:
1. Define conflict;
2. Identify the conflict in a text; and
3. Discover how a conflict can be resolved in a non-violent way.

III. PROCEDURES
A. Preparation
1. The teacher will show the learners the following pictures and ask them to describe
them.

2. The teacher will also present the following sentences to the learners:
- Katniss Everdeen must go up against other contestants in order to survive.
- Stranded on the Red Planet, astronaut Mark Watney must overcome its
unforgiving environment and survive long enough to be rescued.
- Noel is not sure whether to buy the blue shoes or the black jacket with his
allowance.
- Two friends become obsessed with experiments and accidentally create a robot
that is a threat to humanity.
- Luke who has been turned into a mouse must fight the witches.
- Irvin is an activist who fought against racial segregation laws.
- Clyde crossed the river despite the flood.
- Terry is having a hard time deciding on what to study first.

3. The teacher will ask the learners to arrange the underlined letters to form a
sensible word that will describe the situations presented in the sentences and in
the pictures.

4. The teacher will ask the learners to ponder on the question, ”How can we resolve
conflicts in a nonviolent way?”

B. Presentation
1. The teacher will present the lesson through a PowerPoint Presentation.

2. The teacher will ask the learners to revisit the sentences given in Activity No. 1 and
instruct them to identify the types of conflict presented in each situation.
3. The teacher will then invite the learners to revisit the question, “How can we
resolve conflicts in a nonviolent way?”, and encourage them to share their insights.

C. Practice
1. The teacher will group the learners into smaller groups. Then, the teacher will ask
each group to identify the type of literary conflict presented in each situation and
how will they resolve the conflict presented.
- Manuelita had been chubby since she was a toddler. She became even heavier
as she grew as a teenager. She was often teased in school for being heavy.
Manuelita became so determined to lose weight. Now, Manuelita is very skinny,
however, she still sees her old overweight self whenever she looks in the
mirror. Her family and friends tried their best to convince her how beautiful she
is, yet she had a hard time believing them. What is even worse is that she still
continues to go on a diet. Will Manuelita be able to reconcile her body image
with reality or will she still continue to have a distorted image of herself?

 How will you help Manuelita resolve this conflict?

- Mina and Letty both grabbed a chair toward a computer in the library for their
research work. Both claimed that they needed much time on the internet for
their research study.

 How would you resolve this kind of conflict if you were there in the library?

- Juanito is just a normal Filipino boy who enjoys playing patintero, tumba patis,
and habul-habulan. Despite being playful, he also tries his best in school. He
excels in Math and plays baseball. But unknown to all, he also has other
preoccupations. Juanito has his own enchanted world with magical creatures.
When not in school or playing with other kids, he travels to this enchanted
world Bighani through his magical horse Sakay. However, when he brings
something to Bighani that he should not, a hidden gate is unlocked unleashing
monsters that cause pollution and illness to people in Bighani. Will he be able
to capture the monsters before they find their way to his world?

 How can Juanito resolve this conflict? Suggest possible actions.

- Erwan and his family were preparing for dinner when suddenly they felt dizzy
and that the grounds were shaking violently. Every member of the family tried
to hold on to things inside their house to save them from breaking. However,
the shaking continued and they had to flee to safer grounds away from falling
objects.
 What conflict is presented in the text?
 How can Erwan and his family help resolve this kind of conflict?

- Azzah is a Filipino Muslim woman who was committed by her parents to an


arranged marriage. Azzah was educated in a private coed institution where she
met Bryan, a Christian. They fell in love with each other against the will of her
parents. She tried to talk her way out of the arranged marriage but to no avail.
Her parents do not want to be humiliated by not honoring the arrangement.
What conflict is shown in the text?
How can Azzah resolve this conflict? Will she be able to resolve it
peacefully? Give suggestions to Azzah.

- Jane and Allan were assigned as partners in their Araling Panlipunan project
that requires them to peer teach their classmates. They were very excited
initially but when they started brainstorming about their ideas, that’s when they
also started arguing and both were trying to outsmart the other.
 What conflict is shown in the text?
 How can Jane and Allan resolve their conflict? Give suggestions.

- After breaking her mother’s favorite vase, Casey struggles to decide whether
she should tell her mother the truth or attempt to hide her mistake and blame
the family dog.

 How can Casey resolve this conflict?

- It’s the year 3030 and society is completely dependent on computers and
robots. A young boy named Domino is flying his hovering board to school when
all the machine starts attacking people due to a powerful computer virus.
 What conflict is shown in the text?
 What will Domino do now that the machines that are supposed to help
him have turned against him?

- Tara and her friends accept a dare to sleep over in the old abandoned house in
the hill. They acted brave at first, but when they started seeing ghosts they
tried to run. Trapped in the haunted house, Tara and her friends struggle to
escape with their lives.
 What conflict is shown in the text?
 How will Tara and her friends resolve this conflict?

2. The teacher will instruct the learners that they will create a hashtag about their
learnings about their topic for today.

V. ASSIGNMENT
DIRECTIONS: Read the following selection and answer the question that follows in
½ piece of paper.

Dan and Jess were best of friends. Both excelled in their academics. They always
help each other both in school and with personal problems. Dan’s parents were rich
while Jess’ is very poor and they had financial difficulties in sending all their children
to school. But this doesn’t hinder Jess from pursuing his studies and doing his best.
However, one day, Dan’s parents told him to stop befriending Jess since he is just
after his money and whatever help he can give.
