3. The pressure p of the atmosphere at height h above ground level is given by 𝐏 = 𝐏𝟎 𝐞− 𝐂 ,
where P0 is the pressure at ground level and C is a constant. Determine the rate of change of
pressure with height when P0 =1.013×105 pascals and C=6.05×104 at 1450 metres.(4 Marks).
4. The distance S metres travelled by a car in T seconds after the brakes are applied is given
by 𝐒 = 𝟐𝟓𝐓 − 𝟐. 𝟓𝐓 𝟐 . Find (a) the speed of the car (in km/h) when the brakes are applied,
(b) the distance the car travels before it stops( 3+3 = 6 Marks).
8. Sketch the curves y = x2 + 3 and y = 7 – 3x and determine the area enclosed by them.
(1 + 3 = 4 Marks).
9. The curve y = 2x2 + 3 is rotated about (a) the x-axis between the limits x = 0 and x = 3, and
(b) the y-axis, between the same limits(y=0 and y=3). Determine the volume generated in each
case (3 + 3 = 6 Marks).
10. Sketch the curve y2 = 9x between the limits x = 0 and x = 4. Determine the position of the
centroid of this area( 1 + 4 = 5 Marks).
11. Vertical height h km of a missile varies with the horizontal distance d km, and is given by
h=4d−d2. Find the mean height value and r.m.s height value of the missile from d=0 to d=4 km
(3+3 = 6 Marks).
