INTRODUCTION

1
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City

Most people are aware of how important electricity is to daily life, both at
home and at work. Many of us may not give much thought to how much
our job and other activities depend on a dependable source of energy
because it has become such a common part of our everyday lives. We
don't give it the respect it deserves as a result. Since electricity cannot be
tasted, seen, heard, or scented, it presents a challenge. It is frequently
referred to be a "silent killer" since it is essentially invisible, and too
many people have learned this the hard way. (Neitzel,2015)

In underdeveloped countries, electrical injuries continue to rank

among the most agonizing trauma injuries. In the Philippines, however,
the number of electrical injuries is often underestimated. The majority
(80.4%) of those injured were men of working age, and 75.5% of them
worked in construction. (Elloso,Cruz,2017)

During the power restoration in Surigao City devastated by

typhoon Odette, at least two linemen lost their lives while trying to help
restore the power. The cause of death of the two linemen is improper use
of tools, malfunction tools, and not following the safety practices of using
electrical tools.(PPN 2021)

This study aimed to know the electrical tools safety practices of

EIM students in Surigao Del Norte National High School, the study
conducted to know their capabilities in electrical task. Furthermore, the
study aims to determine the importance of the proper use of electrical
tools to prevent accidents when performing electrical task.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

4
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City

This research covered the safety practices of electrical tools. The study
limited its coverage on the Grade 12 EIM students of Surigao Del Norte
National High School about 40 EIM students were use as sample in
conducting the survey. Each of the respondents are given the same

12 EIM students of Surigao Del Norte National High School of the
present school year 2022-2023.

DEFINITION OF TERMS.

Electricity. A fundamental form of energy observable in positive and

negative naturally (as in lightning) or is produced (as in a generator) and
that is expressed in term of the movement.

Tools. A device or implement, especially on held in the hand, used to

carry out a particular function.

Practice. The actual application or use of an idea, belief, method, as

opposed to theories relating to it.

5

Safety. The condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause

danger, risk, or injuries.

Hazards. A hazard is any object, situation, or behavior that has the

potential to cause injury, ill health, or damage to property or the
environment. Health and safety hazards exist in every workplace.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

When you consider all the reasons why we depend on electricity

for our modern way of life and other improvements you realize how
important it is and how it shouldn’t be taken for granted. There are still
people living underdeveloped, impoverished nations without electricity,
but those who depends on it every day most likely won’t be able to
survive without it.( Day, 2018)

Over the years various researchers have addressed this issue to

make electrical safety augmented with equipped safety devices, but so far

6
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City

very few research studies have shown that new advancement in this field
is small in possible. Electrical safety concerns are subject to preventive
care towards a careless malpractice on electrical live circuit. Hot line
workers and electricians are particularly vulnerable to this safety
concern because electrical injuries can be serious and even fatal.
(Pudur,2021)

According to (ESFI, 2018) electrical hazards must be recognized

and appropriate precautions taken to prevent electrical injuries on the
job. Moreover (Occeno,2016), the most common of electrical incidents are
electrical short circuit. Furthermore, electrical safety is very important
factor that needs further attention. (Ezennaya,Enemouh,Agu,2017)

It is very important to not get in electricity’s way because it can

kill. Electrical safety is an important issue for ensuring the safety of
employees, users at house and the working environment whether it is
through the use of electrical equipment or the safety of the main
distribution system. Safety must not be compromised and the same
basic principles need to be followed first. We use electricity for many of
the energy services around the house and industries without which we
cannot imagine our life on earth as on date. Because of this, it is
extremely important to follow certain rules and have minimum safety
devices to protect from shocks, fire and electrocution. Electricity is one of
the most commonly encountered hazards in tactility. Accidents can occur
in which contact with electricity results in serious injury or death.
(Redd,2019)

Electrical safety inspections are conducted in a constructed way,

to minimize the risk of electrical hazards and improve the productivity of

7
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City

the industry by reducing unwanted accident, breakdowns, and property

damage. (Hossain and Salam,2015)

This study aimed to know the electrical tools safety practices of

EIM students in Surigao Del Norte National High School, the study
conducted to determine the skills of the students and to know their
capabilities in electrical task. Furthermore, the study aims to determine
the importance of the proper use of electrical tools to prevent accidents
when performing electrical task.
