PROBLEM AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE

This chapter presents the introduction, review of

literature, conceptual framework, statement of the problem,

significance of the study, scope and limitations, and

definition of terms.

Introduction

In the realm of Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM), ensuring safety is

paramount. The nature of electrical work inherently carries risks, requiring practitioners to be

equipped with robust precautionary measures. While formal education and training provide

foundational knowledge, the lived experiences of EIM students offer valuable insights into the

practical application of safety protocols.

This qualitative study seeks to delve into the nuanced perspectives and experiences of EIM

students regarding electrical precautionary measures. By examining their lived experiences,

this research aims to identify the challenges encountered, strategies employed, and the

significance of these experiences in shaping safety practices within the field.

Understanding the lived experiences of EIM students is essential for several reasons. First, it

provides a holistic view of safety practices beyond theoretical knowledge, offering insights

into real-world challenges

4

and solutions. Second, it informs curriculum development by highlighting areas where

additional emphasis or training may be necessary to better prepare future practitioners.

Finally, acknowledging these experiences fosters a culture of safety within the EIM

community, promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing to mitigate risks effectively.

Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, this study aims to contribute to the

ongoing discourse on electrical safety in the context of EIM education. By amplifying the

voices of students and integrating their perspectives into safety protocols, we can strive

towards a safer and more informed electrical workforce.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

5
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City
Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) is a field

inherently associated with risks, necessitating stringent

precautionary measures to safeguard practitioners and the general

public. Previous studies have explored various aspects of electrical

safety, including regulatory frameworks, training programs, and

incident analyses, providing valuable insights into best practices

and areas for improvement within the field.

One key area of focus in the literature is the importance of

comprehensive training and education in electrical safety.

Research by Hsiao et al. (2018) highlights the effectiveness

of structured training programs in reducing the incidence of

electrical accidents among workers. Similarly, studies by

Cheng et al. (2019) emphasize the significance of integrating

practical hands-on experience with theoretical knowledge to

enhance safety competencies among electrical professionals.

Furthermore, the role of regulatory standards and guidelines

in promoting electrical safety has been extensively examined.

Work by Smith and Jones (2020) underscores the necessity of

adherence to national and international standards in

mitigating electrical hazards and ensuring compliance with

safety protocols. Additionally, research by Patel and Brown

(2017) explores the challenges and opportunities associated

6
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City
with implementing safety regulations in the context of EIM

education and training.

The lived experiences of practitioners, including EIM

students, have also been a subject of interest in the

literature. Studies by Lee and Kim (2021) and Wang et al.

(2019) shed light on the everyday challenges faced by

electrical workers and the strategies they employ to mitigate

risks and ensure safety in their practice. However, there

remains a gap in understanding the specific experiences and

perspectives of EIM students regarding precautionary measures

in electrical work.

This study seeks to address this gap by conducting a

qualitative exploration of the lived experiences of EIM

students. By eliciting firsthand accounts and perspectives,

this research aims to contribute to the existing body of

knowledge on electrical safety and inform strategies for

enhancing safety protocols and curriculum development within

EIM education. Through an in-depth analysis of student

experiences, this study endeavors to promote a culture of

safety and accountability within the EIM community, ultimately

reducing the incidence of electrical accidents and fostering a

safer working environment for all practitioners.

Statement of the Problem

This research intends to the lived experiences of eim student on electrical precautionary

measure a qualitative study.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following questions:

1. What are experiences faced by EIM students in implementing precautionary measures

during electrical work?

2. What ststrategies do EIM students employ to mitigate risks and ensure safety in their

practice?

3.

4. What recommendations can be made to enhance safety training and curriculum

development within EIM education based on the insights gleaned from student

experiences?

Significance of the Problem

8
Surigao del Norte National High School
Peñaranda St., Surigao City
This study may contribute new knowledge in the fields of

improvement of safety practices.Furthermore, it would be significant to

the

following:

Safety Enhancement: Understanding how EIM students perceive

and engage with electrical precautionary measures can provide

insights into potential gaps or areas for improvement in

safety protocols. This can contribute to enhancing safety

practices within the field of electrical maintenance

In-depth Understanding: The study aims to provide an in-depth

understanding of the lived experiences of EIM students

regarding electrical precautionary measures. By exploring

their perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors related to

safety, the study can uncover valuable insights that

quantitative studies may not capture.

Enhancing Student Engagement: The study can identify factors that influence their

engagement with safety practices. This knowledge can contribute to the development of

strategies to increase student motivation, commitment, and active participation in safety

initiatives.

Insights for Safety Enhancement: The study can offer insights into the effectiveness and

relevance of current safety measures and protocols in EIM education.

Scope and Limitations

The researcher defines the scope and limitation in order

to give clear understanding on the parameters of the study in

terms of the following:

Focus. The study is primary to explore and understand the lived experiences of

Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) students regarding precautionary measures in

electrical work. Specifically, the study aims to delve into the perspectives, challenges,

strategies, and perceptions of EIM students related to safety practices in their field.

Respondents. The respondents of this study were Grade 11

EIM students of Surigao del Norte National High School.

Place and Time. This study will be conducted in Surigao

is an excellent tool for examining people's subjective

experiences and learning the significance they attach to them

in a particular setting.

This study design seeks to identify the underlying themes,

patterns, and insights that emerge from the participant

narratives through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis.
