CHAPTER II
CONTENT

A. History Of The Fatahillah Museum

Fatahillah museum has the official name of the Jakarta history

museum is a museum located on fatahilah park road no.1, west
Jakarta with over 1,300 meters. It consists of the main two wings
in the east and west and the sanding building used as a kanto.
At the start of the first town hall in Batavia was built in 1620 on
the east bank of kali. It lasted only six years before being
dismantled for an attack from the sultan's forces in 1626.[1]
Instead, it was rebuilt by order of governor-general jan
pieterszoon coen in 1627. The site is on the nieuwe markt (now
fatahillah park).[2] According to the historical record, the second
city hall was just one story tall and the second level of
construction was done later. In 1648 the city hall was in bad
shape. The soil in the highly unstable city of Batavia and the
weight of this building caused its descent slowly from the surface.
In 1937 the oud Batavia foundation proposed to erect a museum
on Batavia's history, which later purchased the warehouse of the
geo wehry & co company to the east of the great times on street.
The large door of north no. 27 (now the puppet museum) and
rebuild it as the Batavia oud museum. The old Batavia museum
was opened to the public in 1939.
At the time of independence the museum was transformed into
the old Djakarta museum under the auspices of the Indonesian
cultural society and later in 1968 the "old Djakarta museum" was
handed over to the Jakarta administration. Dki Jakarta's then
governor, ali sadikin, later debuted the building into the Jakarta
history museum on March 30, 1974.

B. Contents of the Fatahillah Museum

The Tugu Inscription is one of the inscriptions originating from
the Tarumanagara Kingdom. The contents of the inscription
describe the excavation of the Candrabaga River by Rajadirajaguru
and the excavation of the Gomati River by Purnawarman in the
22nd year of his reign. Excavation of the river is an idea to avoid
natural disasters in the form of floods that often occurred during
Purnawarman's reign, and droughts that occurred during the dry
season.

The Ciaruteun inscription is inscribed with Pallawa script which is

arranged in the form of a Sanskrit verse with the Anustubh metrum
which consists of four lines and at the top of the inscription there is a
sculpture of a pair of soles of feet, a picture of tubers and tendrils,
and spiders. Text: vikkrantasyavanipat eh srimatah
purnnavarmmanah tarumanagarendrasya visnoriva padadvayam
Translation: "This (sign) of a pair of soles like the feet of Lord Vishnu
(preserver) is the sole of the noble Purnnawarmman, king in the land
of Taruma, a valiant king in the world."
A large statue in the Greek style is in the middle of the courtyard,
the statue is a statue of the god Hermes. Hermes is the god of
commerce and protector of travelers in Greek mythology. In the
past, this statue was placed on the bridge in front of the Harmoni
Trans Jakarta stop, but in 1999 this statue was damaged so it had to
be moved to the Museum.
CHAPTER III
CLOSING

A. Conclusion

After visiting the Fatahilah Museum, we got a lot of

experience and knowledge about history - the history of our
nation's struggle against colonialists from the Netherlands.
Even though many of these collections no longer exist, it is
because of that that we are obliged to protect the remaining
collections, so that our next generations can see them.

B. Suggestion

To improve its performance and appearance, the Jakarta

History Museum since 1999 has been determined to make this
museum not just a place to treat and exhibit objects from the
Batavian period, but also to be a place for all people, both
Indonesian and foreign, children, adults and even for people
with disabilities to add knowledge and experience and can be
enjoyed as a place of recreation. For this reason, the Jakarta
History Museum tries to provide information about the long
history of the city of Jakarta, from prehistoric times to the
present in a more recreational form. In addition, through its
exhibition system, the Jakarta History Museum tries to depict
"Jakarta as a Cultural Meeting Center" from various ethnic
groups, both from within and outside Indonesia, and the
history of the city of Jakarta as a whole. The Jakarta History
Museum also always tries to organize recreational activities so
as to stimulate visitors to be attracted to Jakarta and increase
awareness of the importance of cultural heritage.
