Sera Fast C-TE
(ROTTA-Fix® 1417)
Cationic fixing agent
Function Formaldehyde-free, cationic fixative for direct and reactive dyes to improve wet
fastness properties
Properties - does not contain formaldehyde or formaldehyde-liberating substances
- improves wet fastness, wash fastness, perspiration fastness and wet-ironing
fastness of direct and reactive dyeings
- has only little influence on the light fastness of dyeings
- does not affect the fabric handle
- can be used in conjunction with the usual finishing products (pre-tests are
necessary)
- does not foam
- is not sensitive to sulphates
- can be used in padding or exhaust process
Chemical Characteristics Nitrogen-containing compound

Application
Padding procedure
Depending on depth of shade and pick-up
10 - 25 g/l Sera Fast C-TE (for reactive dyeings)
20 - 40 g/l Sera Fast C-TE (for direct dyeings)
are applied by padding.
This procedure is economical and provides good repeatability. The danger of
spotting from machine contamination when applying such products on dyeing
machines does not exist.
Sera Fast C-TE is compatible with the usual nonionic and cationic finishing
agents. However, preliminary tests are recommended.
Exhaust process
To improve the wet fastness properties, the well rinsed goods are treated
up to 30 min with
1 - 3% Sera Fast C-TE (reactive dyeing)
2 - 5% Sera Fast C-TE (direct dyeing)
at 30 to max. 40 °C in weak acid bath pH 6.0 - 6.5.
Stripping of Sera Fast C-TE
To correct faulty dyeings Sera Fast C-TE must first be removed from the textile
material. This may be accomplished by treatment with a strongly anionic
dispersing agent based on naphthalene sulphonic acid condensate or with
3 g/l hydrochloric acid or formic acid and
1 g/l Sera Wash M-NF
30 min / 50 - 60 °C
The fabric must then be rinsed and neutralized before redyeing.

Effect
"Standard" cationic fixing agent have following effect:
- direct dyes are bound to CEL only by physical forces (van der Waals)
- cationic aftertreatment is in most cases necessary
- cationic agent neutralises the solubilizing groups (carboxyl, sulpho)
- bond between dye and fixing agent is based on a salt reaction
- size of the molecule (dye + fixing agent) is increased
- this leads in many cases to a change in shade
- normal aftertreatment agents lead to good water and perspiration fastness
- with some direct dyes also washing 40 °C is improved
Cationic aftertreatment: application principle
Before cationic fixing can be carried out, the rinsing bath must be free of dyestuff!
