What I observed based on the simulation/experiment is that when two

particles of the same charge (positive-positive or negative-negative) are brought

together, the potential energy of the electric field they generate increases and it

decreases as they move farther away from each other. While two particles of

opposing charges (positive-negative or negative-positive), once brought closer to

each other the potential energy of their electric field decreases, but if separated the

potential energy increases.
