understanding. The cumulative
effect of these improves

attainment of goals.
T h e AT B U i n t e r n a l
publication has come a long way,
from News Bulletin, to the ATBU
Digest and now the ATBU Herald,
a title adopted by the University
standing publication committee
in the year 2018. It is aimed at
building and solidifying laudable
achievements of the previous
Publications.
Hence, it is refocused and
resolved to henceforth, be
published and appear as “ATBU
HERALD MONTHLY” (every
month), and “ATBU HERALD
Q U AT E R LY ” ( e v e r y t h r e e
months) under the Directorate
of Information and Public
Relations. It is hoped that the
publications will garner the
necessary support required to

objectives of free and cohesive

ATBU AMONG 8 WORLD UNIVERSITIES
FOR EU ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PROGRAM
T he Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University
has been selected to be among five
Nigerian Universities and three European
Universities for the European Union Erasmus
Grant.
Approval for the Grant was given by the
European Union and Culture Executive Agency to
establish international Msc programme
embedded Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of its
vision for human capacity development in higher
institutions.
The EU Erasmus comprises of five
Nigerian Universities which include the
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, the
University of Portharcourt, the University of

T
he Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University,
Bauchi would collaborate with the
Nigerian Army Armoured Corps
Headquarters, Bauchi, in the area of research
and development.
The decision to collaborate follows a
courtesy visit paid on the University Management
by the Commandant, Armoured Corps

Mohammed Sani Ahmed who was received by
the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Ahmad
AbdulAzeez at the Council Chamber in Gubi
Campus on 6th June, 2023.
Prof. AbdulAzeez said, the University has
many researches lying down in shelves which are
unattended to but the concern and the will by the
military to collaborate will help in improving the
working condition of the military in the country.
He said, the University has many capable

Australia. The overall coordinating institution is

artificial intelligence capabilities into embedded
system to enhance skill set for modelling, design
and analysis for engineers. It has the capability to
strengthen the Nigerian higher education
training curricular with state-of-the-art
European standard technology. The 36-month
project will end in January 2026.

Industry.
The partnership is for the benefits of
the University community. It will involve in the
training, teaching, research and development
for the students, staff and intending
researchers and the business community.

partnership as timely and apt looking at the
challenging situation in the country where most
of the youth are involved in most of the
criminalities plaguing the Country adding that if
the youths are engaged positively, they will not
have time to plan for anything negative.
Prof. AbdulAzeez added that the
University has put a request to the World Bank to
establish ICT Centre of Excellence in the
University. He further assured the Bank of
Industry that words will be put to action to ensure
the sustainability of the partnership and also
thanked them for choosing ATBU to run the
programme.

Institute of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE) on

The Dean, Faculty of Engineering and
Engineering Technology expressed his gratitude
for the registered members assuring that the
purpose of the Occasion was aimed at adding
value to the profession for a better Nigeria. He
encouraged other students who are yet to be
members to do so, pointing to them the benefit
of becoming members after graduation.

protect the general interest and walfare of

F ederal Government has directed
expatriates to renew their papers in line
with the extant laws of the Country.
This was disclosed by the Comptroller of
Immigration services Bauchi command, Alh.
Abdullahi Adamu at the Council Chamber in
Gubi Campus on familiarization visit to the
University on April 5, 2023.
The Comptroller said their mission in the
University was for collaboration, sensitization
and to strenthen their existing relationship with
the University. He said he has passion for ATBU
as seen in their graduates excelling in their
respective fields.
He added that the expatriates whose papers
have expired or is about to expire should
endeavour to renew the papers. He said
immigration services is always in to research to
know about new happening in the society. He
called on the management to consider them
when admitting students for both postgraduate
and undergraduate programmes.

State University Gadau has approved
the appointment of a 3rd Substantive
Registrar. He is Dr. Ahmad Garba Hassan the
immediate past Registrar of the Abubakar
Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Dr. Ahmad
Garba Hassan who was born into the royal
family of Bauchi, Bauchi State, attended his
primary education in Bauchi Local Government,
and holds a Bachelors degree from the
University of Maiduguri, Masters and PhD from
the University of Abuja, where he was
employed as Assistant Admin Officer and rose
through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar
heading the University's Alumni Relations
Division. He recently served as Registrar of
ATBU between 2018-2023.

A new Head has been posted to the
Directorate of Information and Public Relations
of the university. He is Alh. Zailani Bappa.
He took over from Alh. Kabiru Garba
Aminu who was the Head of the Directorate for
the past one year and has now been posted to the
school of post graduate studies as secretary.
Alhaji Bappa was away on secondment in
Zamfara state since June 2019. He has assumed
duty last June after the two term of four years
elapsed.
He was recently promoted to the rank of
Director and has, since, assumed office.

matriculated their students into degree
programmes for 2022/2023 academic session.
The matriculation took place in the respective
instituations.
Addressing the matriculating students,
the Vice-Chancellor Professor M. A. AbdulAzeez
urged the students to shun any deviant
behaviour that would hamper their academic
pursuit. The Vice-Chancellor who was
represented by former University Librarian and
Chairman, Central Screening Committee, Prof.
Mansur Usman Malumfashi said the University
as matter of policy would not tolerate any form of
misconduct or violation of the rule and
regulations by the students.

Both the Rector of the Polytechnic,
Bauchi and the Provost of the Federal College of
Education (T) Potiskum, assured the University of
playing their part to achieve academic excellence
and produce ready made graduate who can
compete with their counterpart any where in the
world.
In his acceptance speech, the newly
inaugurated SUG President, Senator Dauda
Abdulrahman (Wakili) appreciated the University
Management for providing a level playing ground
for the election to be conducted, which was
adjudged to be free, fair and credible.
Senator Wakili pledged to build on the
legacies of his Predecessor by upholding the
good working relationship already built with the
Management.

This was disclosed by the Overseer of the
Security Unit, Mr. Usman Razana, in an interview
with the University Bulletin. Razana appreciated
the University Management for fulfilling its
pledge of procuring a fire fighting truck for Gubi
Campus as well as motorcycles for Yelwa, Gubi
and Tafawa Balewa Campuses. He added that it
was the resolve of the Management to ease
patrol of the campuses by the security personnels
of the University.
Mr. Razana commended the University
Management and said that despite the paucity of
funds, it was able to procure such equipment for
the Security Unit. He said the two campuses are
enjoying relative peace courtesy of the Vice-
Chancellor's initiative to support the Unit.
He expressed gratitude for the effort of
the University adding that such gesture will boost
the morale of his staff.
