1. Explain reading as a communication process.

Reading as a Communication Process
Why do Filipinos manage to understand Korean dramas despite their lack of knowledge of
the Korean language? Yes, that is because they are reading the subtitle displayed on the screen.
But why do people giggled at romantic lines or cry at heartbreaking ones when they have only read
the text? One explanation for this is that reading is a form of communication.
Reading is a communication process because of the transfer of information that occurs.
Reading a newspaper is a fantastic illustration to back up this notion. In this case, the author of the
article conveys information to the reader, who is referred to as the receiver throughout the process.
The recipient attempts to comprehend the meaning of the text after reading the information written.
After the reader understands the message, there is a response being formulated, thus completing
the communication process.
Reading is referred to as a kind of communication. When a person reads, a bond is formed
between him and the text. It is because the writer is communicating a concept to the reader. When
the reader has digested the thought, he or she provides feedback or a reaction. Reading becomes a
communication activity as a result of the process of receiving and reacting.

2. Why should you read? Discuss the benefits of reading.

The Benefits of Reading
Reading is like eating. What does a person gain in eating healthy foods? Yes, a person
gains nutrients just like how knowledge is acquired through reading. However, the deeper truth is
that the benefits of reading extend to more than just knowing.
Reading helps to strengthen the brain and expand one's vocabulary. Brain scans revealed
that reading for an extended period of time increases brain connectivity, particularly in the
somatosensory cortex. This region of the brain reacts to physical sensations such as movement and
pain. Reading is also connected to what is known as "the Matthew effect," which refers to the
biblical verse Matthew 13:12. It refers to the idea that the more a person reads, the more vocabulary
improvement they will gain.
Reading improves one's ability to empathize. When a person reads a story, they are also
learning about the personalities of the characters. It simply means that a reader is familiar with a
wide range of attitudes. This opens the door to understanding how other people feel,
otherwise known as empathy. The ability to empathize is critical in maintaining positive
relationships in life.
Reading can help a person live a longer life by preventing age-related cognitive decline.
Reading books or other materials is recommended for older people to keep their minds active. It
is like the idea that an unsharpened knife becomes dull and rusty. If a person's mind stops learning,
it will become slow and forgetful. According to a credible study, people who read live two years
longer than those who do not read at all.
Reading reduces stress and helps alleviate depression symptoms. All people cannot deny
the truth that they feel relaxed after reading. One study revealed that it is as powerful as yoga and
humor in lowering psychological distress levels. Reading fiction is also a way to escape from one's
world. Reading must be encouraged in these depressing times that force people to be isolated from
others.
Reading helps people get a good night's sleep. Reading is a relaxing activity that should be
done every day before going to bed. Rather than reading on a screen, it is recommended
to read printed books. The reason for this is that the light emitted by devices stimulates and
activates the brain. Doctors also advised reading somewhere other than the bedroom if one
experienced trouble sleeping.
Reading is unquestionably beneficial to a person's well-being. However, just as one
chooses to eat healthy foods, one should also pick the right materials to read. Since some reading
materials are toxic to the mind, this should be avoided. The benefits of reading do not fade away
quickly because they last a lifetime.
