1. State the main problem of Buenaobra’s Machine Shop.
The problem of Buenaobra’s Machine Shop mainly roots in its system of training and
development of its employees. As stated in the case, their newly hired employees received no
orientation at all. Add to that, 5-10 minutes of training time is not sufficient considering that
the nature of the business is handling machines. Yes, let’s put that the company have great
experience with students over the years. But it is not a solid basis to ignore the possible disasters
that an unexperienced workforce might create. Summing these series of mistakes, the shop’s
workers eventually suffered injuries which are definitely avoidable through a proper training
program. In connection to that, another problem of the organization is the absence of a high-
quality training provider. Knowing that machineries required employees that has the know-
how, the president must select a trainer who specializes on the matter. He should not let a
supervisor to shoulder such a crucial task. As a consequence, the desperate decision led to a
fiasco that did not solve the company’s problem on the safety measures inside the premises.
Those events are products of a single source which lies on the system of employee training and
development of Buenaobra’s Machine Shop.

2. State the different areas of consideration following the guide below:


Strengths of the Company
The company has a bigger production volume in their manufacturing site. They also
have excellent experience with students over the years. Add to that, their older workers give
help and guidance to the newbies in situations where difficulties arise.
Weaknesses of the Company
The company has poor training and development system of its employees. They provide
no orientation to its workers and there is only 5-10 minutes of training time allotted.
Opportunities in the Company
There is a bigger room for personal growth of an employee since older employees
provided help and guidance in difficult situations. The workers could also learn faster through
their on-the-job training approach because they actually perform the task on the spot.
Threats in the Company
The work environment is risky because employees with no proper training might
mishandle a machinery which could lead to an accident in the workplace.
