FIRST PERFORMANCE TASK *refer to the list below

THE 3D CELL MODEL

In this activity, students are already aware of the concept of cells and that they are made of organelles
which perform different functions for the cell. The main goal of this activity is to reinforce these learnings to
create meaningful and concrete experiences.

Objectives:
 Develop and use a model of the cell using recycled materials
 Describe the different parts of the cell
 Identify the functions of the different parts of the cell

Materials:
(Brought by every group)

You can use food, yarn, candy, clay, Styrofoam, and anything else appropriate that you can think of, in
any combination and various other recyclable items available at home. Be unique and Creative.

Procedures and guidelines:

1. Prepare the materials needed. (Note: This is a group activity, so it is very important that you should bring
the necessary materials assigned to you by your group members. Remember, teamwork is always a win-
win.)
2. Draw your model of the cell first at the back of this activity sheet. Imagine using the materials provided.
This is done in order not to waste materials in the activity.
3. Create a model of the cell. You may choose to make a plant, animal cell or bacterial cell using all the
materials listed.
4. Your cell must be 3- dimensional with front, back and sides.
5. Emphasize that each material must represent a specific organelle. You have the freedom to choose which
is which that will represent the specific organelles in your cell.
6. All parts of your cell must be labeled clearly. Suggestion: use toothpicks and pieces of paper to make
little flags.
7. Your organelles should clearly represent the actual organelle. By just looking at an organelle, your teacher
should be able to tell what it is. Ex: Your nucleus should not be square. Your mitochondria should have a
folded inner membrane.
8. Actual numbers of organelles found in real cells should be represented. You may refer to the attached
pictures for your reference.
9. Be unique and creative! Use a variety of appropriate materials.

10. After making the model, brainstorm with your groupmates and explain how you came up with your model
and why such material is used to represent the specific organelle of the cell. Do not forget as well to
discuss the different functions of the parts of the cell. Write your discussion at the back of this activity
sheet.
11. If done, took some photos of your cell models.
12. After taking some photos, you may clean your stations and present your model to your teacher.
13. Prepare to answer the following laboratory questions.

Organelles that should be included:
