Yes ______, may you tell the class our

previous discussion? What have you
learned? Sir, our discussion was about the
usage of modals and its different
types. moreover we’ve been able to
distinguish their different purposes in a
particular context by writing our own
sentences.

Very good! So what are the different

types of modals again?
Logical possibility, ability, necessity,
and permission.

Any more questions about our previous

lesson?
None, sir.
Review of the
Previous Lesson
Alright! Since no one wants to raise a
question. I’ll be the one to ask. Why is
modals important again? What’s the

Are you ready?

Yes sir!

B. Motivation Now, if you are ready, let us try to

unlock your schema first. I have a
question for you.

Recall your favorite news reporter or

anchor. How did he/she crafted the
content of his/her report? Is the
information reliable and/or credible?

Sir.
Yes? Are you raising your hand?

should aim to write news reports that

you end your report? What do you need
to remember about using paragraphs in
news reports?
If I am to present my news. I will try to
make it engaging.

Sir for me, I will use facts.

In my opinion, it is best to present the

news with a catchy phrase or
anecdote.
Thank you for your wonderful insights!
I’ve learned a lot from your ideas.
Some of the things that you shared will
be discussed here on this lesson.

Now, Let’s try to put it into practice.

you seen the questions that we
generated? Where did it started?

Very good! They start with Who, what,

where, when, why, and?

Great! its How. As we tackle news

writing, we will learn more that by
asking these questions. but how about
the content? Do you think they are all Yes, I believe sir it is written in concise

they are written in manner that you

one another? But did you ever wonder

because we will learn all of that today!
Yes, sir!
So, are you ready to become the best
reporter around?
C. Lesson Alright! Let’s start!
Proper
_______ can you please read the
definition of News?
Yes, sir. News is oral or written report
of the past, present or future even in
local, national or international
environment.
Very good! It answers the Ws and H
questions without embellishments.

News reports are found in newspapers

and their purpose is to inform readers of
what is happening in the world around
them.

However, News reports have a certain

structure that you need to follow. This is
what it looks like:

What do you call this structure?

This structure is called inverted

pyramid.

Perfect! That’s the structure we need.

So why do you think news has to be
written this way?
I think, sir. News stories are organized
using the inverted pyramid style which
means that the information is
presented in descending order of
importance.
Correct. The information should be in
descending order or importance. The
Lead as the most important information
about an event.

The body as the crucial information

expanding the topic and the?
Tail.

Yes. What do you think the tail

contains?
It’s the least important?
You’re quite there. yes. the tail as the
extra information.

We’re going to discuss these further.

Inverted pyramid allows the audience to
read the most crucial details quickly.
More than a century ago. Inverted
pyramid style remains the basic formula
for news writing.

Lets begin with the Lead.

Lead Paragraph informs the reader of

the most important aspects of the story
as soon as possible. The Lead
Paragraph is often the only part of the
story that people read.

Can you please help me know the

function?

It uses the 5Ws and H rule:

-WHO (who is involved?)
-WHAT (took place)
-WHEN (did it take place)
-WHERE (did it take place)
-WHY (did it happen)
-HOW (did it happen)
You should emphasize those aspects in
your lead way to express less important
aspects until the second or third
sentence. Im going to present to you a
sample news story and show you the
lead. Please read the news story.

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines —

Members of a village council in Virac,
Catanduanes, are suing the operators
of a medical diagnostic center due to
the illegal dumping of waste on the
shoreline of Barangay Concepcion
that reportedly caused seven children
to get infected with COVID-19, the
village chief said on Sunday.
Did you get it?

Yes, sir.
Nice!

Body of the News Report gives more

details and provides more information
about?
Its about the WHY and HOW of the
story.
Cool! Let’s continue the example news:

Anthony Arcilla, village chief of

Concepcion, said the complaint would
be filed in the muncipal prosecutor’s
office against Excel Care Diagnostic
and Wellness Center for violation of
the Toxic Substance and Hazardous
and Nuclear Wastes Control Act of
1990).

Arcilla said village officials found on

Jan. 24 a total of 1,978 syringes and
2,000, blood sample tubes for COVID-
19 tests and HIV test kits inside a
garbage disposal plastic bag, where
some of its contents were scattered at
the shoreline of Purok 3 of the village.

Can you still follow? Lets do it!

Yes, we can still follow!

Last, is the tail

Tail contains the less important

information which is often omitted by
the newspaper editor if there is not
enough space left in the newspaper.

Lets continue with our example:

He said the village officials went to the
area after they were informed that
some children were seen playing with
the medical waste.

According to Arcilla, the seven children

who played with the medical waste
were subjected to an antigen test on
Jan. 24 and all tested positive for the
virus, he said.

The children were immediately isolated

in their homes along with their
families, he added.

Let me add some Tips:

-Your News Report should be easy to

understand; every news story should be
able to be read by a twelve-year-old
learner.

-Try to be fair- include both sides of the

story and don’t let your opinion get in
the way of reporting the facts

Remember that!
We will remember that.

Did you have questions?

None, sir.

That’s it! I hope you’ve learned

something from our lesson. To see if
you really get the lesson. Let me ask
you quick questions. Fill in the blanks
with the appropriate word that best
completes the statements:

most important aspects of the story as
soon as possible.
the answer is the lead paragraph
-good! the answer is the lead paragraph

2. The _____ contains the less

important information which is often

is not enough space left in the
newspaper.
