LAC SESSION REFLECTION on FORMATIVE

AND SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

I realized that Summative Assessments are beneficial to the education

process because they show teachers what information students have learned
at the end of a lesson. Summative assessments can be used as an end of a
lesson evaluation or a year-end evaluation for teachers, to determine how
much information our students have learned. I can benefit from summative
assessments because they can look at their curriculum as a whole, and decide
what areas are my student’s strengths and weaknesses. Formal exams and
standardized tests are examples of summative assessments. Summative
assessments gather information about my student’s knowledge at the end of a
unit or class and it is being said that the information is gathered after it is too
late to affect my student’s performance.
