Development Goals

 Introduction
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as Global Goals,
are a set of 17 goals established by the United nations General Assembly
in 2015 as a part of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These
goals are designed to build on the successes of the earlier Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) while also expanding their scope to address
issues such as Climate Change, inequality, and Sustainable Consumption
and Production patterns.

These SDGs are designed to be a blueprint for a more sustainable and

equitable future for all people and the planet. They recognize that
Economic, Social, and Environmental Sustainability are interconnected and
that achieving one goal often requires progress on others. By working
towards SDGs, Governments, Civil Society Organizations, and the Private
Sector can help to create a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable
world for all.

processes.
Clean Water and Sanitation
This goal aims to ensure availability and sustainable
management of water and sanitation for all by improving
access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and
hygiene education.

This goal aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable,
sustainable, and modern energy for all by promoting the
use of renewable energy sources and increasing energy
efficiency.
Decent Work and Economic Growth
This goal aims to Promote sustained, inclusive, and

employment, and decent work for all by fostering
entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable business
practices.
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
This aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote
inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster
innovation by increasing Investment in infrastructure and
technology, supporting research and development, and
enhancing international cooperation.

This goal aims to reduce inequality within and among
countries by promoting social, economic, and political
inclusion for all, and by eliminating discriminatory laws
and practices.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
This goal aims to make cities and human settlements
inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by promoting
sustainable urban planning and management, improving
access to affordable housing, and enhancing disaster risk
reduction measures.
Responsible Consumption and Production
This goal aims to ensure sustainable consumption and
production patterns by promoting sustainable use of
natural resources, reducing waste, and increasing
resource efficiency.

This goal aims to take urgent action to combat climate
change and its impacts by promoting renewable energy
sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing
climate resilience, and promoting education and
awareness on climate change
Life Below Water
This goal aims to conserve and sustainably use the
oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable
development by reducing marine pollution, protecting
marine habitats, and promoting sustainable fishing
practices.
Life on Land
This goal aims to protect, restore, and promote
sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems by combating
desertification, reducing land degradation, promoting
reforestation, and protecting biodiversity.

Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
This goal aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies
for sustainable development by strengthening the rule of
law, enhancing access to justice, and reducing violence
and corruption.
Partnership for the Goals
This goal aims to strengthen the means of implementation and
revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development by
promoting multi- stakeholder partnerships, enhancing
cooperation between governments and the private sector, and
increasing access to funding for sustainable development
projects.

The SDGs have a profound impact on cities and communities as they provide a framework for creating
sustainable and inclusive societies. By localizing the goals, engaging communities, fostering collaboration,
and promoting inclusive and resilient environments, the SDGs help cities and communities to achieve their
full potential and address loal challenges. Ultimately, the SDGs contribute to building more equitable and
sustainable cities and communities that support the well-being and prosperity of all residents.
