THE SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT
GOALS
What is Sustainable Development Goals?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as
the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end
poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy
peace and prosperity. They were adopted by all United
Nations Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda
for Sustainable Development.
The SDGs consist of 17 interconnected goals with 169 targets covering a
broad range of sustainable development issues, including poverty, hunger,
health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and
clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and
infrastructure, reducing inequality, sustainable cities and communities,
responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water,
life on land, peace, justice, and strong institutions, and partnerships for the
goals.
These goals are designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better
and more sustainable future for all" by addressing the global
challenges we face, such as climate change, environmental
degradation, poverty, inequality, and injustice. Each goal has
specific targets to be achieved over the next decade and a half,
aiming for completion by the year 2030.
