OATH
CONGRESS
28 October 1928
Member's name :
The history of the Youth Pledge was motivated by the conditions of the Republic
of Indonesia, which at that time was still in the Dutch colonial period. Under these
conditions, youth from student groups in Indonesia agreed to establish an
organization called the Indonesische Student Bond or PPPI in 1926.
This PPPI group consists of educated youth who studied at Stovia, Technische
Hoogeschool te Bandoeng (THS), and Rechtshogeschool te Batavia (RHS). They
all have the same vision and mission, that the colonizers who held Indonesia in
check can be removed with the strength and unity of the nation's youth spirit.
Youth Congress I
From 30 April to 2 May 1926 the Youth Congress began to be held, which was a
meeting of Indonesian youth groups on a national scale. The meeting was
referred to as the First Youth Congress and took place in the Banteng Field
Area, Jakarta.
The aims and objectives of the meeting were to discuss strategy and convey
ideas regarding how to free oneself from colonialists. Not only that, these
young people also consider many things. Starting from the role of women in
winning independence, religion, to the language of unity for Indonesia.
Youth Congress II
Still regarding the brief history of the Youth Pledge, at the First Youth Congress the results of
the meeting still had not found a bright spot to escape the clutches of the colonialists.
It continued at the Second Youth Congress which took place on 27-28 October 1928. This time
the meeting was held in three places, with different concentrations of discussion.
1. October 27, 1928 The Second Youth Congress was held at the Katholieke Jongenlingen
Bond Building, Banteng Square, Central Jakarta. This congress elaborated discussions on
history, language, customary law, education, and will, as elements of the unity and integrity
of the Indonesian people.
2. October 28, 1928 The Second Youth Congress resumed at the Oost-Java Bioscoop
Building, with discussions on education. Still on the same date but in a different place,
namely the Indonesische Clubhuis Kramat Building. The discussion in this place has
become more narrow, about nationalism, democracy, and the content of the formulation of
one vision.
