DETERMINATION OF SPONTANEITY OF
B-0 PRINCIPLE
‘The method is broadly similar to that used to determine
the suspensibitity of concentrates, except that it
employs only one
wersion and a 5 mif standing time.
It iavolves preparing 250 ml of a mixture of
formulation and water, mixed with only one inversion
‘of the measuring cylinder. After standing under defined
conditions the top nine-tenths is removed, and the
femaining tenth assayed chemically, gravimetrically
or by solvent extraction. The spontaneity of dispersion
is readily calculated,

1B-3 PROCEDURE
Normally the whole procedure is carried out in
duplicate. Homogenize the sample by gently stiring
(see Note 1). The standard hard water, measuring
eylinder and sample to be used in the determination
should be equilibrated to the required temperature
before starting the test. Determine the density of the
formulation and calculate the mass of formulation
‘equivalent o 12.5 ml (WV). Pour standard water (237.5
mm) at the required temperature into the graduated
cylinder and stand this on a top-pan balance: add the
calculated mass of formulation from a small beaker
held so thatthe lip is lem above the top ofthe cylinder.
Complete the addition within atime limit of 15 s (see
Note 2).
‘As soon as the formulation has been added, stopper
the cylinder and invert once (see Note 3). Stand the
cylinder in an upright position on a bench free from
vibration or direct sources of heat for S min = 10s. At
the end of this time, carefully remove the stopper and
‘withdraw the top 225 ml of suspension by means of

oogey BayerA termitarium
‘ermites are social insects. An important part of the
Tsurat environment, they benefit mankind by their
effective re-cycling of organic matter into the soil
Unfortunately sometimes, the organic matter they
recycle is our houses and other man-made structures.
Termites are therefore, a major cause of economic
damage to structures in our country, sometimes
causing more damage to housing than fires.
A termite colony consists of the termite queen, soldiers
and workers. A mature colony may have over a million
termites. Most termites build mud chambers, the
termitaria, in which they reside.
It is the subterranean termites (generally ground-
dwelling or requiring contact with the soil or some
constant source of moisture) which are a major cause
of concern forhumans.
ee
Historically, the best way to stop termites from destroy-
ing homes is by applying chemical barrier of the
termiticide in the soil around the structure.
The efficacy of a conventional barrier depends on its
completeness. Any break in the barrier (due to con-
struction activity, improper application, shifting of
treated soil mass, subsidence, etc) renders it useless
andthe structure lays exposed toa termite attack,
In addition, the repelient nature of conventional pesti-
cides actively encourages termites to avoid the barrier
and look for gaps.
Premise® is an innovative termiticide being used by
more and more pest control operators, internationally
| breaks through the ‘repellent barrier’ mentality and
allows the pest control specialist to get the best results
at minimal dosage rates
Being non-repelient and hence very effective it has
replaced conventional products in both pre
construction and post-construction termiticide treat-
ment.
Unlike conventional termiticides, which act by 2
repellent or immediate contact kil, Premise” creates
non-repellent treated zone in the soil that function as
termite killing field”. Termites entering the treated zone
cannot detect the presence of Premise” and ge
‘exposed to lethal doses of the product
Worker termitesDue to the non repellent property of Premise” termites.
do not look around the “barrier” for a gap. Termites
exposed to Premise” become dysfunctional
immediately and stop feeding,
This ensures that no further structural damage can take
place. In addition termites transfer Premise” and its
debilitating effects by contact to nest mates not directly
exposed to treated zone in the soil. This causes
reductions in termite populations by attrition.
OF NO RETURI
ee
Fora termiticide to be effective, itis very important that
it spreads well and remains in the soil for some time.
The ability of a product to spread in the soil is called the
lateral spread and depends on its solubility in water.
Premise® being water-soluble has an excellent lateral
spread. When injected into the soil, it spreads well
along with the solvent. This enhances the distribution of
the product
With time, Premise® binds well with the organic matter
in the soil. Due to this there is no leaching and the
treated zone remains intact for a long time. These
features make Premise” the product of choice in pre
and post construction soil application.
|
Lateral spread of termiticides |

lit, Premise” + 499 lit. of water = 500 lit. of Premise”

per current practices.
To get an idea of how effective Premise” is over conventional formulations, we compare it on some important
parameters :
