LISTENING TASK

Tips & Tricks

Take 1-2 minutes to read all the questions

and answers.

Highlight/underline/write the important

keywords in both question & answers.

Prepare a piece of paper to write down notes.

Cross out the potential wrong answers (optional).

Answer as many questions as you can when you

listen to the audio for the first time & check your
answers during the 2nd playthrough.
 Do’s & Don’ts
Don’t be distracted
Try to lessen the distraction by listening
to the audio in a closed room, with your
earphone/headphone.
Don’t ‘assume’ the answer
Do NOT ever try to ‘guess’
the answer (unless the
question is a ‘logical’ type
of question).
Don’t waste too much time on one
question.
If you waste too much time on a
question, you will not have time for
other questions. Don’t sacrifice the
whole forest for a tree.
Do skip the hard questions
Skipping means answering it later,
not leaving it unanswered. You can
skip the difficult question and get
back to it during the 2nd playthrough
of the recording.
Do eliminate the possible
‘wrong answer’
This is highly optional and only
do this when you are confident
with the question. By
eliminating the possible wrong
answers, you will have a higher
chance to get the right answer.
PRE LISTENING
Pre listening
◦ Read the instructions carefully.
◦ Read the questions carefully.
◦ Identify and understand the key words.
◦ The question ranges from easy to the most difficult.
WHILE LISTENING
While listening
◦ Listen carefully.
◦ Identify the cues.
◦ Jot down notes as the speaker talks.
◦ Write the answer.
◦ Listen again for the second time.
◦ Check your answers.
◦ Practice selective listening – not every word said is
important and relevant.
POST LISTENING
Post listening

◦ Make sure you have answered all questions.

◦ Recheck your answers.
◦ Submit your google form.
