Even in the wake of the recent COVID-19, teachers would typically set aside a few minutes to call out

students' names and surnames or give out an attendance form for them to sign to record their
attendance for the day. In many cases, this approach is flawed. For instance, as students increased- extra
time had to be allotted just at the beginning of the class. Secondly, there is still the possibility of
transmitting COVID-19, which may have a particular impact in industries where physical contact is
required.

That’s why, the requirement for an enhanced contactless attendance management system is becoming
more and more important as technology advances at a faster rate. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
is a biometric system technology in which a non-touch recognition system reads each individual card,
identifies the students from their respective RFID cards, and then sends the data to the database
(Personnel Computer) utilizing a wireless frequency and small chips. These cards can take the form of an
ID card or a piece of their regular attire. Each RFID tag will be programmed with the student’s name,
grade level, LRN, and the temperature that was detected. A period of social distance, would also reduce
physical touch and improve employee flow during shift changes (Galehouse, 2020).

With the aforementioned proposal, the researchers aspire to create an Arduino RFID-based Attendance
Management System with an Infrared Thermal Scanner that would help to lessen attendance issues as
well as monitor body heat to avoid the spread of the virus such as COVID-19. This study specifically seeks
to answer the question of how accurate the system is as regards to recognizing the user’s identity using
an RFID card and a functioning thermal scanner as one of the preventive measures for the possible
spread of viruses. If this device is proven to be efficient, and dual, it will benefit businesses, academic
institutions, and other sectors.
