I. Introduction

In everything we do, we often compare things. When we play with


our friends, we compare who’s strong and weak in the game. While
watching our favorite movie or Korean- drama, we cannot refuse on
comparing the characters and their role. And, if we are going to buy new
shoes, we choose and compare products that we think is best for us.

These real life experiences are connected with this lesson which
will help you deepen your vocabulary through comparison.

Supply other words or expressions that complete an analogy.

III. Objectives:
At the end of this learning activity sheet, you are expected to:

1. identify relationship between pair words by comparing them to two


other words;
2. determine the connection of the pair of words that form analogy; and
3. analyze the relationship between pair of words to complete an
analogy.

A WORD ANALOGY draws a relationship between two words by


comparing them to two other words. It shows how word phrase are related.
Analogies look like this:
1. finger: hand:: toe: feet
Finger is to hand as toe is to feet.
(This is how you read analogies)

Here are some possible relationships in an analogy:
SYNONYMS (example number 3) - a word having the same or almost
the same meaning as another word in the same language
e.g. 1. obese: fat: slender:_____?
 What is the word that has the same meaning with
the word slender?
ANSWER obese: fat:: slender: THIN
2. thrilled: joy:: angry: _____?
 What is the word that has the same meaning with
the word angry?

ANTONYMS (example number 1) - a word opposite in meaning to
another
