related. The comparison between two things is called analogy. This is the topic that we are
going to discuss today. You can collaborate with your classmates when working with the
given activities

different from each other, but have some similarities. It shows how two pairs of words
are related. The second pair of words are related to each other in the same way as the

relationships between them based on what you know about these.

Examples:
Bark is to dog as meow is to cat ( bark and meow are sounds made by dog
and cat)
Frame : Picture ; fence : yard ( frame and fence have similar function :
both serve as boarders )

VOICE.
This is the lesson that we are going to discuss today.

II. GUIDED INSTRUCTION

VOICE :
Voice is the form of a verb that shows whether the subject is
performing the action

Active and Passive Voice

A verb is active when the subject performs the action and passive when the
subject receives the action

Active Voice
Any action verb, regardless of whether it is transitive or intransitive.( that is ,with or
without a direct object), can be in the active voice.
A VERB IS ACTIVE IF ITS SUBJECT PERFORMS THE ACTION

Examples :
Mike introduced the new manager.
Rose writes with conviction.

In both examples above, the subjects perform the action. The first example contains a
transitive verb and, therefore, has a direct object, which receives the action of the verb. The
second example has no direct object; its verb is intransitive.

A VERB IS PASSIVE IF ITS ACTION IS PERFORMED UPON THE SUBJECT.

Examples :
The new manager was introduced by Mike.
The essay was written with conviction

In the examples above, the subjects receive the action- that is, they have the action
performed upon them. The first example names the performer, Mike, but Mike is now the
object of the preposition by instead of the subject. In the second example, the performer of the
action is not named.
