Topic: EFFECTS OF PARENTING STYLE ON CHILDREN

A parent is someone who takes care of a child or an offspring. There are generally four types of
parenting style which could positively or negatively affect your child include; Authoritarian, Permissive,
Uninvolved and Authorative .

Authoritarian parenting is focusing on obedience where a parent punishes rather than corrects without
giving an opportunity for opinions, in this parenting a child is never heard. Children with parents who
use this style of parenting usually develop self-esteem problems because their opinion is not valued.

Permissive parenting is rarely enforcing rules and not keeping to them using the common phrase “kids
will be kids” and thinking that little interference from a parent will make them better. Only disciplines
when there is serious problem. Children with this type of parents usually perform badly in school and
have behavioural issues thinking they are above the law.

Uninvolved parenting is providing little guidance, nurturing or attention. These parents tend to have
little or no knowledge of what
