MORSE LABORATORY & PILOT PLANT JAW CRUSHER

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND OPERATION

Morse jaw crushers are designed with an overhead eccentric motion, which force-feeds the material
through the jaws. MORSE crushers are shipped with steel bases that are easily bolted to a tabletop or
foundation. Be sure that the crusher base is firmly bolted to prevent vibration during operation.

Care should be taken to install the crusher correctly. The crusher should be allowed to idle for a brief
operation and inspection period of approximately 10 to 15 minutes prior to introducing feed material.
The speed of operation can be from 300 to 400 RPM. The top speed of 400 RPM should not be
exceeded. Each crusher is fitted with a fabricated steel feed hopper to assist in directing the feed
material into the jaw opening.

Although all bearings are lubricated before shipment, all bearings should be checked for adequate
lubrication prior to initial operation and inspection and regular use. We recommend the use of
LUBRIPLATE MO-LITH NO.2 grease, or equivalent, which is applied through the (3) three grease
fittings located on the main frame and pitman bearings. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THESE
BEARINGS BE KEPT LUBRICATED AT ALL TIMES. During the first week of operation, we
advise greasing the bearings 3 to 4 times per day to prevent potential bearing failure. After the first
week, it is recommended that all bearings be lubricated every morning prior to starting the crusher.
Remove all the old grease and grit that is forced out of the bearings during the lubrication process. All
bearings are replaceable bronze type bearings machined to OEM specifications.

It is extremely important that the CRUSHER NOT BE STARTED WITH ANY MATERIAL
BETWEEN THE JAWS. All material should be through the machine before shutting off the crusher.
Prior to daily start-up and operation, the crusher should be run at the beginning of the day for at least
(2) two minutes before feeding any material into the crusher.
The jaws are pre-set to crush a minus ¼”product prior to shipment. Jaw adjustment is made by:

(A) First turn the handwheel on the tension rod to loosen the spring as mush as possible. Then by
turning the adjusting handwheel which actuates the vertical wedge adjusting rod on the back side
of the crusher, you can raise or lower the adjusting wedge, and also change the position of the
toggle plate in relation to the toggle seat. This governs the movement of the pitman on which the
moveable jaw plate is attached.

(B) After adjustment is completed, re-adjust the spring tension as described in the following
paragraph.

(C) Several trial runs may be necessary to obtain the desired product size.

Tension is governed by adjusting the handwheel on the horizontal tension rod, which regulates the
tension spring. DO NOT put more than a ¼ turn of tension on the spring after the outside spring collar
contacts the tension spring. The toggle plate is made of cast iron and is designed to break in the event a
piece of steel, tramp iron, or any hard object enters the crusher.

The stationary and moveable jaw plates are reversible end for end, providing extended life.

See the attached (for your respective machine) general arrangement drawings for crusher part numbers.
When reviewing the drawing be sure it applies to the size crusher you have.

We recommend an ample supply of parts be kept on hand to prevent unnecessary downtime and lose of
production. A complete list of recommended spare parts is attached for consideration.
