A Day in the Istana Gebang

On holidays in 2016, my classmates and I visited one of the tourist attractions in the
city of Blitar. People used to call it “Istana Gebang” which is Bung Karno’s house when he
was young. That’s where Bung Karno and his family lived. The existence of the Istana
Gebang is currently functioning as the Istana Gebang Site Museum which is managed by the
Blitar City Government. Located on Jl. Sultan Agung numbers 27-59 and 61, RT/RW.03/7,
Gebang Village, Sananwetan Village, Blitar City. My classmates and I arrived at Istana
Gebang at 09.00 A.M so we had plenty of time to be there until Istana Gebang closed at 05.00
P.M.
When my friends and I entered Bung Karno’s house, we were amazed by how elegant,
neat, and clean the house was. Before we entered Bung Karno’s house, we saw that there was
a big gong in the yard and also a beautiful garden. I found a lot of antiques but that’s what
impressed me even more. My classmates and I entered the main room, there were paintings
and photographs everywhere. Wooden chairs and wooden tables in the main room filled the
space. Then we continued into the rooms that were there, we saw a mosquito net and some
furniture there. Next, we walked out of the house until we found a garage. There is an old
black car located inside. We took some pictures before heading home. Finally, at 11 A.M we
headed to the parking lot to pick up our vehicle until we finally left the historic place.
I can’t forget the experience of going to the Istana Gebang. It left a positive impression
on me. I can feel how history is very important for us young people to learn. So Istana
Gebang is one of the most important places in Indonesian history.
