PREFACE
Sound is disturbance of matter caused by vibration

or to and fro motion called oscillation of any
substance. This disturbance has a frequency, or
number of oscillations per second depending on the
frequency of the vibrating substance. The
disturbance travels as waves which hit our ear drums.
If the frequency is within our audible range we hear
it. Otherwise we don’t.
Human beings, like other animals, learnt to
communicate with each other through sounds which
reflected their ideas and emotions. Writing came
later, when they pictorially inscribed their ideas on
stones, rocks and walls. As their intellect improved
they invented words containing letters representing
the sounds. Gradually languages developed.
The Chaldeans or the ancient Hebrews
experimented extensively with the frequency of
sounds and assigned numerical values to letters
matching the vibration frequencies they produced
when spoken. This Chaldean system of giving
numbers to letters, later to the Roman letters, i.e.,
English alphabets, was adopted by CHEIRO, the
famous English palmist-astrologer-numerologist as
the only correct system, even though many other
systems like the Unit system, Hebrew kabala system,
Pythogorean system and Phonetic system were
available. This correct system is followed in this book.
The so called Pythogorean system popular today
of assigning numbers to alphabets according to the
alphabetical order has no basis and does not work,
giving only wrong results. The alphabetical order is
only a tentative arrangement and has no logical basis.
In modern schools which adopt scientific methods of

teaching children, only alphabets which are easy to
write like I, L, C etc. are taught first.
Ancient Indian rishis or seers on the other hand
discovered the significance of sounds and the effect
they had on the human body and mind. Among the
eleven minor yogic Upanishads of the sacred Vedic
texts, Nadabindu deals with the auditory phenomena
that accompany certain yogic exercises and
Dhyanabindu deals with the syllable AUM or OM, the
sacred mystic sound. Knowledge of Indian mantra
shastra or mantra yoga spread outside India. It is
said that the AUM of Rig veda is the source of AMEN
of the Bible and AMIN of the Quran.
A very interesting example of the effect of sound
over mind is the Transcendental Meditation
technique taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. By this
method your personality is analysed with the help of
a questionaire by an authorised teacher and you are
given a secret special sound or mantra by repeating
which, aloud or in your mind, you immediately reach
a deep state of consciousness. The mantra resonates
with your body-mind and creates calmness.
Buddhists and Jains also have special mantras which
cleanse the body-mind and take one to deep
meditative states.
Toning, a mind body healing method, is the
creation of extended vocal sounds on a single vowel
in order to experience its sound and its effects on
one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well
being. Toning, which is slowly becoming popular
worldwide resembles the ancient mantra yoga
techniques.
According to Hindu Tantrism, a branch of
Hinduism, a thought expressed in subtle sound form
is a mantra and the same thought expressed in

pictorial form is a yantra. That is, every yantra has
a corresponding mantra and vice versa. In fact you
are a yantra or a pictorial form created by nature and
you have a corresponding mantra or sound form.
You are known by your name and you are called
by your name. When someone calls you by your name,
the sound hits your ear - body - mind and produces a
reactive response. When the vibration frequency of
your name sound matches with the natural vibration
frequency of your sound form, you will experience
resonance, harmony and peace. You will respond
whole heartedly and happily. On the other hand if
the sound frequencies don’t match you will
experience interference, discord and confusion.
Since you have been conditioned to respond to that
name you will respond half heartedly and unhappily.
In other words your name mantra has to match your
sound form and thereby your yantra or figure form.
That is, your name is your personal mantra which
has to match your mantra-yantra form.
Ancient Hindus took the help of Astrology, the
study of stars and planets and mantra shastra, the
science of sounds, to arrive at the most harmonious
names for the new born babies. The naming of the
baby gradually became a ceremony where the
astrologer gave the new born baby a name starting
with the sound harmonious with that of the star under
which the baby was born. This method of naming
was found to create the required name mantra-yantra
vibration frequency harmony and resonance. Today
the Hindu astrological almanacs contain the various
letter sounds suitable for children born under various
stars and many Hindu parents simply follow this
method of naming their children. These lucky letter
sounds are given in a separate chapter in this book.
Coming to Numerology, numbers represent
planets with their powers and influences. When the
number corresponding to a name is found out, you
can know what planet it represents. It has been found
that when this name number matches with the birth
number and the destiny number of the person it
results in the name mantra-yantra matching leading
to harmony, health, peace and prosperity. This name
number then is the lucky name number of the person.
According to the Chaldean system name number is
most important. That is the number which ultimately
rules your nature and fortune. Birth number and
destiny number come only after that.
CHEIRO in his book of Numerology mentioned
the meanings of the first 52 numbers,1 to 52,
representing the 52 weeks of the year, gave specific
meanings to only 35 numbers and said that all other
numbers had meanings only similar to those. But
the ancient rishis or seers of India, in their deep
meditation, discovered the meanings of the first 108
numbers and taught their disciples. The secrets of
the first 78 numbers went outside India, were
inscribed in the pyramids, and were later modified
and incorporated in the Tarot cards.
This book gives you the meanings of 108
name numbers. It also tells you to whom these name
numbers will be suitable. Only those numbers which
will give health, wealth, comfort and peace are
mentioned as lucky.
INTRODUCTION
Destiny acts through numbers. Your life is governed
by your numbers, the numbers that you have and the
numbers that you choose. In order to understand what is
said in this book it is necessary for you to know what
your numbers are according to numerology.
Knowing your numbers is very simple. Take your

midnight. If your birth date is 23rd, for example, your
birth number is 23. Ifyou are born on 23rd January 1966,
your date of birth is written as 23.1.1966. Add all these

destiny number. This number is also called fate number,
fadic number, added number or compound number.
Your birth number denotes your nature. Your destiny
number denotes your destiny or fate. It tells you how your
life is going to be, what types of people you are going to
meet, what kinds of incidents will happen in your life and
finally where you are going to end up and what kind of
end you are going to meet. Your mind and body are
governed by your birth number and the course of your
life is governed by your destiny number. If your destiny
number is stronger than your birth number, then your
destiny number will also influence your nature and
physique.
Your destiny number affects the course of events in
your life. As the days pass by and your experiences pile
up in your mind, this number slowly affects and modifies
your nature and _ behaviour.
There is also a third number, your name number.

In order to calculate the name number, numbers are
assigned to alphabets. Many systems of numbering the
alphabets evolved, like the unit system, phonetic system,
Hebrew kabaia system, Pythogorean system and the
Chaldean system. CHEIRO found the Chaldean system
to be correct and followed it. The Chaldean numbering
system is as follows:

Shastra, the science of name sounds of ancient India.
This correct system is followed in this book.

The final total arrived at is the name number. The
intermediate totals given by the initials, first names,
middle names, last names etc. however serve to throw
some light on the nature and fate of the person, but it is
the final total name number that ultimately matters. A
name number is calculated only on the name as it is
spelt and written, because the same name sound can
have many spellings. Again only proper names have name
numbers. Proper name NESCAFE has name number 30
while the common name coffee has no name number.
Name number is a very important number because it
modifies both your nature and destiny. Only people with
suitable and lucky names are very successful and shine
in life. The job of a good numerologist is to give you a
lucky name that is harmonious with your birth and
density numbers. If it is a baby a new name can be given
and for grown ups the present name can be suitably
modified by adding or removing a few letters in the name

Change in your name number produces changes in

2. Then sign your new name daily. This is very very
important because the new lucky name is your new nama
mantra and this is the one which is going to change your
nature and destiny for your good. First write in block
letters 23 times a day, for the example given, for 23 days
and then change over to cursive handwriting and sign it
daily 23 times for the rest of your life. This is not at all
difficult and everytime you sign you increase your name
number strength.
3. Switch over to your new name officially and make
it your official signature. Publish your name change in
the government gazette, get a copy of it and change your
name in your work place, bank account, driving licence
etc. and forget your old name. Let all others know that
you have a new name or name spelling. Take care your
new name is spelt correctly everywhere. Even if you have
only added one letter or deleted one letter in your old name,
adopt the above procedure. Changing your full name in
the passport requires a different procedure and follow it if
you need it.
If a housewife changes her name number she need
not change it officially as above. It is enough if she signs
it daily and lets her new name be known to her
acquaintances. She can thus reap the full benefits of

generosity, administrative capacity and brilliant
creativity. The person will also gain in mental

This letter has number value 10 when it occurs
alone and 1 when it occurs with other letters in a
name. The capital I is the Roman numeral for 1.
According to the Hebrews it represents the supreme
self that dwells in man.
When it comes as the first letter of a person’s name
it denotes sudden preoccupation, perseverance,
contemplation, concentration, emotional expression

This is the 20th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and

the left which represents an upright man. The loop

This is the third letter of the Roman alphabets.

those with name number 4.
This number denotes planet Uranus in western

numerology and pseudoplanet Rahu in Indian
numerology. Unless supported by strong birth
number and destiny number this short name number
may make a person popular but will not bring the

letter is almost a square and the person will believe
in a square deal, be fair and square, straight forward
and honest and expect the same in return. The

This is the 13th letter of Hebrew and Roman
