Detailed Lesson Plan in Grade 10

Quarter 4

June 27, 2023

10- Dahlia
12:00-12:50 PM

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson 100% of the students will achieve 80% of proficiency in:

1. Write equations using the relationship between the Volume, Temperature

and Pressure of a gas under conditions of constant number of substance.
2. Solve problems about Combined Gas Law .
3. apply combined gas law in a real life scenario.

A. Content Standards
How gases behave based on the motion and relative distances between gas particles.
B. Performance Standards
None
C. Learning Competencies
Investigate the relationship between volume and temperature at constant pressure of a gas
S9MT-IIj-20

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Combined Gas Law

B. Concept: This equation combined Boyle’s and Charles’ Law, and the same
considerations for the pressure and temperature ratios should be used in the
calculation.
C. Reference/s: Science 10 Learner’s Material pp. 383 - 384 and Chemistry Arlene
Zabala page 141 - 142.
D. Materials: Cartolina
E. Skills: Writing, Solving

III. Lesson Proper

A. Routinary Activity

1. Prayer
2. Greeting of the Class
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Checking of Assignments
B. Developmental Activities

Teachers Activity Student Activity

I. Review

Before we proceed to our lesson for today let’s first have a recap of our
previous lesson.

1. What are the properties of gases?

Ma’am Volume,
Temperature, Pressure and
Mass
Good

2. Who investigated the relationship between Temperature and Pressure

at constant Pressure?

Ma’am he is Joseph
Good Louis Gay-Lussac.

3. What will happen to the temperature when pressure decreases?

Decreases Ma’am
4. What is the relationship between Pressure and Temperature?

Directly proportional
5. What property is constant in Gay-Lussac’s Law

Ma’am Volume Ma’am

Good!

It seems that all of you are ready for our next lesson, let’s now proceed.

II. Motivation

Class let’s have an activity.

In this activity I need one student to do the activity, anybody in the class
who wants to volunteer?

(One student will

Class we are going to play a charades! volunteer)

One minute will be the time limit for each word, is that clear?

Let’s start now

Yes Ma’am

(the students will do the

activity) Combined Gas
Law

Very good!

Then what do you think is our lesson for today?

Ma’am Combined Gas
Law!
III. Lesson Proper

A. Pre-Activity

Before we start the lesson let me show you the objectives of the lesson.

Please read it in chorus

(Students will read the

objectives)
The combined gas law combines the Boyle’s and Charle’s Laws, and
the same considerations for the pressure and temperature ratios should
be used in the calculations. The four possible variations are as follows

◆ Both Temperature and Pressure cause an increase in volume

◆ Both Temperature and Pressure cause a decrease in volume
◆ T causes an increase and P causes a decrease in volume
◆ T causes a decrease and P causes an increase in volume

So if temperature and pressure both increases, Volume will also

increase and vice versa if pressure and pressure decreases, volume will
also decreases.

But if Temperature and Pressure are different from each other then that
is the time we are going to consider the relationship of properties of
gases using Boyle’s and Charles’ law.

Is that clear class?

Yes Ma’am.
Now let’s translate that in mathematical equation:
V1P1 V2 P2
= or V1P1T2 = V2P2T1
T2 T1

Let’s now try to answer our sample problem:

Sample Problem: The oxygen tank manufacturer used to produce 5.0 L

oxygen tanks at 2000 psi and 25°C . Statistics suggests that the 3.0 L
oxygen tank at 1500 psi more marketable. What temperature
requirement is needed to produce a 3 L oxygen tank at 1500 psi?
Who wants to write the given in the board?

Ma’am the given are:

V1 = 5.0 L
T1 = 25.0oC
P1 = 2000 psi

V2 = 3.0 L
T2 = ?
P2 = 1500 psi

Very good!
The required is the final temperature so what do you think will be
expected value of the final temperature if the final volume decreases
and the final pressure also decreases?

Ma’am it will also decrease

because both pressure and
temperature decreases.
Nice!

Next, what will be our new formula?

Ma’am the new formula

will
be:

P2V2T1
T2 =
PV
1 1
Very good! Then who want to answer our sample problem now?

T2 = (298K)(1500 psi)(3.0
L) / (2000psi)(5.0L)

T2 = 383K will be the

answer Ma’am.
Very good! Let’s now have some sample problems.
IV. Application

1. Given 20.0 L of ammonia gas at 5oC and 730 torr, calculate the
volume of 50oC and 800 torr.
2. To what temperature (oC) must 10.0L of nitrogen at 25oC and 700
torr be heated in order to have a volume of 15.0 L and a pressure of 760
torr?

Who want to answer?

1. 21.2 L
2. 21.31oC

Very good everyone.

V. Generalization
To sum up our lesson class I have here unfinished sentences that you
have to complete to generalize our lesson, is that clear class?
Yes Ma’am.

I learned that … (student will answer)

I discovered that … (student will answer)

I found that … (student will answer)

VI. Evaluation 1. 397K

1. A sample of gas has a volume of 2.00 L and a pressure of 0.750 kPa

when its temperature is 25°C. If the volume is expanded to 4.00 L and
the pressure reduced to 0.500 kPa, what must the temperature become?

VI. Assignment

Bring a calculator tomorrow and have an advance reading for Avogadro’s Law.
