GAT - Formulas to Remember

1. The perimeter of a triangle is calculated by adding the lengths of all the sides of
that triangle.
a. perimeter of a triangle = a+b+c
2. The area of a triangle is calculated by the formula:
a. Area of Triangle = 1/2 b*h
b. Where b is the base of the triangle and h is the height of the triangle.
3. In any quadrilateral, the sum of the measures of the four angles is 360°
4. The sum of the measures of the n angles in a polygon with n sides is always (n-
2)x 180°
5. A regular polygon is a polygon in which all of the sides are of the same length. In
any regular polygon, the measure of each interior angle is (n-2)x 180° /n and the
measure of each exterior angle is 360°/n
6. A parallelogram is a special quadrilateral, in which both pairs of opposite sides
are parallel.
a. The Following are some properties of parallelogram.
b. Lengths of opposite sides are equal.
c. Measures of opposite angles are equal.
d. Consecutive angles add up to 180°. a+b = 180°
7. A rectangle is a parallelogram in which all four angles are right angles. It has all
the properties of a parallelogram. In addition it has the following properties: -
a. The measure of each angle in a rectangle is 90°.
b. The diagonals of a rectangle are equal in length.
c. Area of Rectangle = l*w
d. Perimeter of Rectangle = 2*(l+w)
8. A square is a rectangle that has the following additional properties:-
a. A square has all its sides equal in length.
b. In a square, diagonals are perpendicular to each other.
c. Area of Square = a2
d. Perimeter of Square = 4a
9. Perimeter for any polygon is the sum of lengths, of all its sides.
10. For a parallelogram, Area = b*h, where b is the base and h is the height.
11. A line segment, both of whose end points are on a circle is called a chord.
12. A chord that passes through the center of the circle is called the diameter of
the circle.
13. The length of the diameter is always double the radius of the circle.
14. The diameter is the longest cord that can be drawn in a circle.
15. The total length around a circle is known as the circumference of the circle.
a. C = 2 π r
b. Value of π is approximately 3.14
16. Area of circle = π r2
