Volume calculations
Solution

Given:

Shrinkage factor: 94%

3 layer works = 150mm therefore: Thickness of the layer works = 3 x 150 = mm = 0,45 m
Length of section

CALCS

Formulars

1. Formation level FL = Finish Road level – Thickness of the layer works

2. Depth of cut = Ground Level GL - Formation level FL
3. Cross section area m2 Cut: d(15 + 2d)
Fill: h(12 +2h)
4. Volume of Fill/cut = Cross section area m2 x length of section
5. Adjusted cut/fill vol = Volume of Fill/cut x Shrinkage factor
6. Sum of Cut/fill Vol
Calculate the volume. Given the length of the portion of road is = 25m

Steps:

1> The base length of one triangle is = ½ x (7.00 – 6.00)

=½x1
= 0.50 m

2. The height of the triangle is = 0.20 m

3. Area of one triangle is = ½ x base x height

= ½ x 0.50 x 0.20

= 0.050 m2

4. Area of two triangles = 2 x 0.050

= 0.100 m2

5. Area of rectangle is = length x width

= 6.00 x 0.20

= 1.200 m2

6. Total area of roadway = 0.100 + 1.200

= 1.300 m2

7. Volume of material = Area x length

= 1.300 x 25

= 32.50 m3
ADT Calculations

AADE = ADE x Be

AD& = ADE after adjustment (see Section 4.5.1)

Be = Lane distribution factor from Table 9

where gx = growth factor from Table 1 I

I = growth rate in % of E80s (per annum)
x = time in years between determination of axle load data and start of design period

AADEinitial = AADE x gx

where AADE = Annual Average Daily E80 obtained from previous data

Fy = cumulative factor from Table 12

Y = structural design period

Where gx = growth factor given in Table 11

Fy= cumulative factor given in Table 12
