1. INTRODUCTION
This set of calculations contain the analysis and design of IRRIGATION ISOLATION VALVE CHAMBER -
C0306-UAE-EUT-DG-32305, the structure is an underground box structure with opening for utilities. The
structures are grouped based on their height, analysis and design are performed for 2 design heights in
this report.
The loads and combination as per AASHTO LRFD and relevant design criteria have been adopted.
Structural members will be modelled in MIDAS software as uncracked section. Soil under the base slab
will be modeled as springs with stiffness corresponding to their modulus of subgrade reaction. The load
effects thus obtained from various load combinations for service limit state shall be used to satisfy the
section for crack control and deflection as per code requirements. Ultimate design checks for ultimate
moment and shear for the most critical sections as well as minimum reinforcement requirement check
shall also be carried out. All the design checks shall be made by in-house verified spread sheets. or
Autodesk Structural Bridge Design software. The stability of the structure will also be checked for
bearing pressure and buoyancy effects. In the case of buoyancy, the concept of checking the uplift will
be based on the volume displaced, as per Archimedes principle.

A. SELF WEIGHT
Self weight of the structure will be auto calculated by the software and shall be based upon the density
of reinforced concrete as mentioned under the section "Materials"
C. LIVE LOAD
Live load considered on cover slab = 5 kN/m2
Project Job Ref.
FK Sep-23 RC Sep-23 AF
The average depth of water table is 6m below ground level, since this design caters for a large
number of chambers, the water table is considered be at 1m below the top of cover slab for analysis
and design consrvatively.
Lateral loads
Surcharge load considered, γSL = 20 kN/m3
Horizontal earth pressure due to Surcharge load (A) = γSL x ko = 10 kN/m2
Vertical loads
The are 2 cases for vertical force due to earth fill on extension of base slab
Case 1. No Presence of water table
Dry density of soil, γs(d) = 19.0 kN/m3
Vertical Earth pressure due to dry soil (G) = γs(d) x h = 19H kN/m2
Vertical load due to accidental water fill in chamber (J) = 10(H-tts) kN/m2

4. ANALYSIS
Different cases of loading have been considered to capture the worst effects.
1. The camber is full with water and no lateral earth pressure is present.
2. With lateral earth pressure when there is no water table present.

3. With lateral pressure from soil and water when the water table is 1m below the top of cover slab
(along with boyancy force).
4. With lateral earth pressure and chamber filled with water when no water table is present.
