B. Establishing a purpose for Measurement is a number that characterized an object or event, which can be compared with other
the lesson objects or events. We use basic unit of measure for length, time, weight/mass, electric current,
volume, angles, temperature and rate. There are two systems of measures, the Metric System or the
International System of Units (SI) and the English System. Most countries, including the Philippines,
use the SI Unit of measure.
C. Presenting examples / DID YOU KNOW THAT…
instances of the new lesson a. The average length of a window is about 1 meter.
b. The thickness of a needle is about 1 millimeter.
c. A small cupcake can weigh 30 grams.
d. A medicine capsule weighs 200 milligrams.

g. The normal human body temperature is about 37ºC or 98.6 ºF.
h. The freezing point of water is 0ºC or 32ºF and its boiling point is 100ºC or 212ºF.
i. The two commonly used clocks are the 12-hour and the 24-hour clocks. The 12-hour
clock uses A.M. and P.M. to indicate hours before and after noon. The A.M. is an
abbreviation of Latin word ante meridiem means “before midday” and P.M. is an
abbreviation of Latin word post meridiem means “after midday”.
j. The Gregorian calendar is the calendar used in most parts of the world. It was
introduced in October 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a modification of, and
replacement for, the Julian calendar.
k. Angle is the figure formed by two rays, called the sides of the angle, sharing a
common endpoint, called the vertex of the angle.
