IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous Motivation:
lesson or presenting the new What’s on the box?
lesson
Did you find some treasures inside the box? What are those things you
consider as treasures?
Tell something have you found out? What do you think are the uses of those
treasures?

B. Establishing a purpose for Activity

the lesson
My Daily Routine!
List all the things the you did after waking up
in the morning until you go to school.
Take note how many minutes you spent that activity.

Have you managed your time correctly?

From the activity above, you are able to list all your routine before going to
school and how you spent time doing those activities. Have you ever realized
how important time is?

C. Presenting examples/ Complete the following statements.

instances of the new lesson 1. There are ______days in a week.
2. There are _____hours in a day.
3. There are____months in a year.
4. There are____seconds in a minute
5. There are _____hours in a day.

Illustrative Examples:
1. How many hours are there in a week?
Solution:
There are 7 days in a week and 24 hours in a day.
7 days x
= 168 hours in a week
2. Convert 216,000 minutes to days.
Solution:
216,000 min x x
= 150 days
3. The amount of time between two given times is called elapsed time. What is
the elapsed time between 8:15 A.M and 5:00 P.M?
Solution:
8 hours 45 minutes
8:15 A.M 4:15 P.M

5:00 P.M.
The elapsed time is 8 hours and 45 minutes.
a. In the previous Activity, “What’s on the box?’ what are the instruments you
encountered that can be used in measuring and conversion of time?
b. During the primitive period, how do we tell or estimate time? How about at
present how can we convert one nit time to another unit?
c. How importance time is in our life? Cite some real life experiences involve
time.
D. Discussing new concepts Find the equivalent units of the following. Encircle the letter of the correct
and practicing new skill #1 answer. Use the conversion factors.

1. 2h to min.
a. 120 min
b. 48 min
c.24 min
d.60 min

2. 15min to seconds
a. 300 sec
b. 600 sec
c.900 sec
d.800 sec

3. 500 min. to hours

a. 8 h
b. 2 h
c. 10 h
d. 30 h

4. 3 ½ years to months
a. 40 mos.
b. 42 mos.
c. 36 mos.
d. 24 mos

5. 2.8 millennium to years

a. 280 yrs.
b. 560 yrs.
c.1000 yrs.
d.2 800 yrs
E. Discussing new concepts A. Write the appropriate symbols (<, > or =) to compare the following measure
and practicing new skill #2 of time.
1.3 days_____52 months
2.90decades____9 years
3.730 day____2 ½ years
4.200year____2 millennium
5.3 hour____150 minutes

F. Developing Mastery Solve the following problem:

1. Ryan finished typing a short story in 3 ½ hours. How many minutes did he
type the short story?
2. If April 5 is Sunday, on what day does April 23 fall?

G. Finding practical Solve each problem:

applications of concepts &
skills in daily living. 1. As an incentive of the company, FCIE offered 1000-minute leave with pay
to its outstanding employee. How many days of leave with pay is this if an
employee works 8 hours in a day?
2. James and Nadine want to visit the popular Kaybiang Tunnel in Ternate
Cavite. It takes 110 minutes to travel from GMA, Cavite to Ternate Cavite
through biking. If they leave GMA at 8:30 A.M. at what time they will
arrive the Kaybiang tunnel?
3. General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School (GMATHS) was founded
in 1969, in what year will it celebrates its 50th anniversary?
4. Mutya started working on her assignments at 7:30 p.m. If she spends 3
hours working on her assignments, at what time will she complete them?
5. A tourist wanted to visit the historic houses in Vigan. He left Manila at 5:30
a.m. and reached his destination at 2:00 p.m. How many minutes did he
travel?

H. Making generalizations & Measure of Time

abstractions about the lesson  Primitive men used to tell the time by the position of the sun, the stars and
the moon, and the behavior of animals. They used sundial, water clock, hour
glass and other improvised instruments until mechanical clock, digital clock
and other kind of clock has been invented.
 Time is measured by the rotation of Earth on its axis (making one full day)
and its complete revolution around the sun (making one year) in 355 ¼ days.
 The following shows the units used to measure time and their equivalent
factor:

60 seconds = 1 minute
10 years = 1 decade
60 minutes = 1 hour (h)
24 hours = 1 day (da)
12 months = 1 year (yr)1000 years =1 millennium
365 days =1 year
366 days = 1 leap year
52 weeks = 1 year
100 years = 1 century
20 years= 1 score
I. Evaluating Learning Convert each of the following to the units indicated:
1. 15 years = __________ months
2. _______ days = 72 hours
3. 3 hours = __________ seconds
4. 5 scores = __________ years
5. 2, 920 years = __________ weeks
6. _______ months = 364 weeks
7. _______ years = 10 centuries
8. ½ hours = __________ seconds
9. _______ years = 5 millennium
10. 90 decades = __________ years
