Name: Ma Julie Ann Balance Agmata

Date of Birth: 2nd July 2005

Personal Statement for GTE Requirement

Dear Case Officer,

I am writing this letter with utmost sincerity, respect, and honesty as I wish to apply for a
student visa in Australia. My chosen courses are Certificate IV in Kitchen Management and
Diploma of Hospitality Management which I will take up at Sunway International College.

Circumstances in the Philippines

I am currently residing at 585 Aklan St., Brgy. Pitogo, Makati City. Renowned as a
celebrated urban center in the Philippines, Makati City is distinguished by its central
business district (CBD), iconic skyscrapers, and Ayala Avenue, which serve as symbols of
its economic vibrancy. The city boasts upscale shopping complexes like the Ayala Center,
cultural attractions such as the Ayala Museum, a diverse culinary landscape, and a lively
nightlife. Makati is characterized by luxury residences as well as bustling neighborhoods,
with its international character further enhanced by art galleries, embassies, and consulates.
Nonetheless, the city grapples with well-known traffic congestion due to its business
concentration. Functioning as the hub of Philippine finance, Makati accommodates the
Philippine Stock Exchange, underscoring its pivotal role in the nation's economic framework.

Being a chef in Makati City, I am deeply immersed in a dynamic culinary scene that offers
both promising opportunities and distinct challenges. The city's dynamic gastronomic culture
affords me access to a varied selection of upscale dining establishments, cafes, and
eateries. These platforms allow me to refine my culinary expertise, collaborate alongside
fellow chefs, and engage in inventive culinary experimentation to cater to a diverse array of
tastes. The robust demand for catering services within the bustling business and financial
core of the city provides avenues for me to showcase my skills through corporate dining
experiences, and perhaps even explore personal culinary ventures. While I am motivated by
the continual prospects for learning and growth in this fast-paced setting, I am equally
attuned to the industry's competitive nature, where setting oneself apart necessitates not
only dedication but also a fresh outlook. Striking a balance between the demands of this
profession and the city's elevated cost of living can be challenging, yet the promise of career
progression and the opportunity to connect with a diverse clientele render the role of a chef
in Makati an exhilarating voyage of culinary discovery and self-realization.

Personal Ties (Family, Community Involvement)

I have deep and compelling personal ties to my home country, Philippines, which anchor me
to my roots and make me committed to returning after completing my studies in Australia.
These ties are both emotional and practical, reinforcing my intent to maintain a strong
connection to my home country.

One of the most profound connections I have to my homeland is through my family. My

parents, Genalyn and Melmar Agmata, my second eldest sister, Ma. Joanna Nicole Agmata,
and my younger sister, Ma. Suzanne Agmata, all reside in the Philippines. My family has
played an indispensable role in my life, offering unwavering love, support, and a profound
sense of belonging. Temporarily leaving them to pursue my education abroad has been a
challenging decision, but it's grounded in our shared belief that this experience will ultimately
benefit our family and community. I will dearly miss my family when I depart for my studies,
along with the cherished moments and bonding experiences with my friends.

Financial Ties

I am aware that proving financial stability is essential when applying for a student visa. I want
to reassure you that I have carefully planned and set aside the necessary funds required to
support my studies and living costs while I am in Australia. I believe my financial ties to my
home country, Philippines, provide a strong basis for my intent to return upon completing my
studies.

My family doesn't own any property and doesn't run any businesses. We don't own any real
estate, lands, or other assets. In addition, my family has no business ventures or ownership
stakes in any corporation or enterprise. Our financial condition is entirely concerned with
meeting our basic needs. In light with this, my study in Australia is fully funded by my sister,
aunt & uncle. Here in the Philippines, they own "Ayesha's Manufacturing Corporation,"
situated at Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Tua, Magallanes, Cavite. Additionally, they operate
"Ayesha's Beauty Product" in the same location. They also own a house and resort in
Tagaytay City, Philippines, a 1-hectare lot in Quezon Province, and two rental
houses/bedspaces located in Barangay South Cembo, Makati City, and Guimaras Street,
Barangay Pitogo, Makati City. Furthermore, they have their own residence on Ricarte Street,
Barangay South Cembo, Makati City.

 Property owned by you and/or your immediate family in your home country
 Major assets owned by you and/or your immediate family in your home
country including any businesses
 Inheritance
 Retirement funds, etc.

This is not about your sponsors. If you do not own anything what does your parents own and
thereafter you can then include your sponsors properties and businesses.

Academic and Professional Background

My robust educational foundation has aptly primed me for the course of study I am eager to
undertake in Australia, underscoring my unwavering dedication to my chosen field.

• Secondary Education: My secondary education journey unfolded at Pitogo High School,

spanning from June 2017 to July 2021, culminating in an honorific completion.

• Tertiary Education: Following my high school graduation, I embarked on my academic

voyage at the University of Makati from August 2021 to July 2023, where I pursued a
Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management. With distinction, I successfully navigated my
undergraduate studies, achieving a commendable Grade Weighted Average (GWA) of 93.
This scholastic odyssey solidified my foundational knowledge in my chosen field and kindled
a fervent desire for further academic pursuit.

While academics held a prominent place in my life, I also forged substantial professional
experience that harmoniously complements my academic track record, augmenting my
eligibility for the forthcoming program. I served as an intern at Fumirisa Graphic Corporation
from March 2023 to April 15, 2023, concurrently with my undergraduate studies. This
internship afforded me the invaluable opportunity to translate my academic insights into real-
world contexts, deepen my understanding of the field, and hone my problem-solving and
collaborative competencies. Additionally, I maintained part-time employment at Ayesha’s
Manufacturing Corporation since March 2020, where I cultivated a strong work ethic and
sharpened my time management skills. This employment not only supported my educational
pursuits but also enhanced my professional maturity.

Both my academic and professional backgrounds seamlessly align with the prospective
course of study in Australia. The coursework undertaken during my undergraduate tenure, in
conjunction with my internship involvement, have equipped me to thrive amidst the
forthcoming academic challenges.

Career Plans

After completing my studies in Australia, my intention is to secure a chef position at one of

the most renowned restaurants or hotels in the Philippines. As a chef, my responsibilities
encompass a broad spectrum that extends well beyond the kitchen's confines. In addition to
my culinary expertise, I also take on a leadership role, overseeing various aspects of the
culinary operation and making a significant contribution to the overall dining experience. One
central task involves curating menus that align with the restaurant's vision and cater to the
diverse preferences of our patrons. From the meticulous preparation of ingredients to the
application of diverse cooking techniques, my goal is to infuse each dish with impeccable
taste, presentation, and consistency.

However, my involvement extends far beyond the stovetop. I oversee the day-to-day
operations of the kitchen, ensuring the efficient organization of workstations, fostering
coordinated efforts among kitchen staff, and effectively delegating tasks to maintain a
seamless service flow. Procuring top-tier ingredients and meticulously monitoring inventory
levels to minimize waste are fundamental aspects of my role. My commitment to upholding
rigorous hygiene and food safety standards aligns with regulatory requirements.

While my culinary expertise is widely recognized, my role demands creative thinking and
innovation. Experimenting with unique ingredients, flavors, and cooking techniques allows
me to consistently introduce fresh culinary experiences. I also derive great satisfaction from
mentoring and nurturing the growth of the kitchen team, sharing my insights, and cultivating
a culture of learning and development.

Effective time management is crucial as I oversee the timely preparation and presentation of
dishes, especially during high-demand periods. In certain situations, I personally engage
with diners, discussing menu options, accommodating special requests, and actively seeking
feedback to enhance their dining experiences.

Additionally, I play a key role in budgeting and cost control, carefully monitoring expenses,
portion sizes, and waste reduction, all while upholding the exceptional quality that defines
our offerings. Adaptability is vital in my profession, whether it involves efficiently handling
orders during peak hours or adjusting menus to feature seasonal ingredients.

To excel in my position, staying up-to-date with industry trends, technological

advancements, and emerging culinary techniques is imperative. This ongoing learning
ensures that I consistently deliver exceptional dining experiences and stay at the forefront of
the ever-evolving culinary landscape. Ultimately, the role of a chef demands a versatile skill
set encompassing culinary mastery, adept leadership, innovative thinking, and an
unwavering passion for the culinary arts.

As shown below, the base salary for a Chef working in the Philippines is PHP 160,000 per
month, which equates to PHP 4,364.45 (AUD 52,373.46 annually). I acknowledge that this
compensation level is typically reserved for highly sought-after individuals with extensive
experience. However, I believe that pursuing culinary training in Australia will set me on the
path to achieving this level of expertise. While this may result in a salary higher than the
average in the Philippines, I am confident in my ability to surpass expectations and
demonstrate my worth.

Industry in Home Country

The Philippines' food and beverage industry is currently undergoing a substantial period of
growth, driven by the convergence of various factors. First and foremost, the booming
tourism in the country is drawing an increasing number of international travelers who are
captivated by the breathtaking scenery, vibrant traditions, and welcoming atmosphere of the
Philippines. As a result, there has been a noticeable uptick in the demand for outstanding
food and beverage experiences, leading to ample opportunities for talented professionals in
this field.

This is reinforced by strong local interest, as supported by the provided reference. The
industry's continuous growth and increasing appeal are not solely attributed to changing
consumer preferences and higher disposable incomes. Another influential factor is the
presence of a sizable and youthful population, making it an exceptionally promising field to
consider for a fulfilling career path.

In conclusion, the food and beverage industry in the Philippines is currently witnessing
remarkable growth, attributed to various factors including the rise in tourism, strong domestic

Why I Chose to Study in Australia

I have done extensive research on universities in the Philippines, Canada, and the US that
offer programs comparable to the one I want to take. Although these countries do offer
reputable colleges, I have deliberately chosen to study elsewhere for a number of convincing
reasons.
I considered the Lyceum of the Philippines, Treston International College, and Mapua
University in the Philippines some thought, but I feel that studying abroad will give me a
wider perspective and expose me to different cultures, fostering both my academic and
personal development. In addition, I'm excited to experience an international academic
setting and build a global network that will help my prospects for a future profession. More
so, I have a lot of respect for Canada's educational system because it has excellent
universities and schools like Seneca College and the Toronto School of Management.
However, I decided against going there to study since I wanted to experience a different
academic and cultural setting. I think that studying abroad would help me develop personally
and improve my chances for a future profession by giving me a global perspective. Also, it
was an enticing alternative for me because the United States is home to several prestigious
universities, like George Washington University and California State University. Due to my
reservations about the expensive tuition and potential visa constraints, I have chosen not to
pursue a degree there. By choosing a different location, I also hoped to diversify my
experiences abroad.

With this, I chose Australia as my study destination primarily because of its exceptional
Vocational Education and Training (VET) system, which sets it apart from alternatives such
as Canada, the United States of America, and my home country, the Philippines. Australia's
commitment to providing practical, industry-focused education greatly appealed to me. The
renowned VET system in Australia is celebrated for its ability to adapt and respond to
evolving industry demands, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to excel in their
chosen fields. This hands-on and practical approach aligns seamlessly with my career
aspirations, offering me the opportunity to acquire real-world skills and experiences that will
significantly enhance my employability upon completing my studies.

Furthermore, Australia's strong collaboration between educational institutions and industries

made a lasting impression on me. This symbiotic relationship ensures that the curriculum
stays up-to-date and relevant, aligning with the latest industry trends and technological
advancements. This seamless coordination between academia and the workforce assures
me that the skills and knowledge I acquire will be highly sought after, not just within Australia
but also on a global level. The international recognition of qualifications and their ease of
transfer were pivotal factors influencing my decision to pursue my education here.
Finally, the recognition of prior learning within the Australian VET system offers a substantial
advantage. It allows me to harness my existing skills and knowledge, potentially accelerating
my educational path while alleviating the time and financial burden of my studies. This
adaptability and acknowledgment of previous experiences highlight Australia's commitment
to delivering accessible and personalized education to cater to individual requirements. In
conclusion, the amalgamation of a top-tier VET system, industry partnerships, and a flexible
learning approach solidified Australia as my ultimate choice for education, setting it apart
from other alternatives.

will be funding my studies during my stay in Australia. Regarding accommodation, I plan to
live with my sister at 29/26 A Hythe St. Mount Druitt, NSW 2770, Sydney.

My Immigration History
I lack any prior experience in traveling beyond my home country and have never possessed
visas for Australia or any other nation, nor have I encountered any visa denials in my past.
This prospect of studying in Australia marks a significant first for me, and I am
enthusiastically looking forward to embarking on this educational journey. I hold a profound
appreciation for the laws and regulations that have enabled this opportunity, and I am
wholeheartedly dedicated to adhering to all visa requirements. My sole intent is to
