Answer: IPO stands for Input-Process-Output. A computer takes data as

an input, processes it and provides processed data as a useful

information known as output.

Input devices: These are used for entering data into the computer.

Output devices: These are used for displaying results of input data

5. What is scanner? Describe the types of scanners.

Answer: A scanner is used to transfer printed text or pictures into the

computer. There are two types of scanner – flatbed and barcode.

Flatbed: A flatbed scanner has a flat glass surface on which the

document or picture to be scanned is placed.

Barcode: A barcode scanner is used for reading printed barcodes which

are made on different products.

6. Describe the following:

Answer:

a. Laser printer: A laser printer produces the best quality prints. It can

print more pages in a minute than a dot-matrix or an inkjet printer.

b. Plotter: A plotter uses a pen to print accurate and high-quality drawings

such as maps, banners, posters and blueprints of houses and buildings. It

is commonly used by engineers, architects and map-makers.

c. ALU: It does all the arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication,

division) and logical (greater than, lesser than, equal to) calculations.

d. MU: It is a temporary memory of the CPU. It holds data and information

which is to be processed (input data) and results (output) of the processed

data.
