Questions and Answers:
How does the greeting help children learn names and practice hospitality?
The greeting helps the children learn names by hearing them be repeated by the
students. By having to say “hello” then the name it is showing hospitality by
engaging with someone instead of just saying their name.
What social skills are children learning and/or practicing during greeting?
Children are learning how to greet each other with a hello. This could also be done in
another child’s first language to be inclusive and teach the other students about
different cultures.
What do children need to know before doing this greeting in order to be successful?
The students need to know each others names previously to the greeting to be
successful. This greeting would be best used later into the year.

How does this sharing support the academic curriculum?
Since the teacher is putting the questions into the bucket, the questions can be
focused on what the students are learning at the moment.
What social skills are sharers practicing?
The sharers are learning how to speak in front of and audience even though it is
just their classmates. They are also learning how to project their voice for the
whole circle to hear.
What social skills are listeners practicing?
The listeners are learning how to be respectful when someone else is speaking and
learning how to ask questions when someone is speaking.

What academic skills are children practicing?
The students are learning how to think independently and form their own opinion. The teacher is
asking questions, so this can be catered to a current lesson the students are learning.
What routines and behaviors did children need to learn in order to be successful with this
activity?
The children need to learn how to move quietly and quickly across the classroom, so we are not
stuck on one question for an extended period of time.
How does the teacher introduce this activity?
The teacher will start by explaining what the four corners of the room means and where you will
move after the question is asked. The teacher will also explain that the students need to be safe,
but move quickly and quietly.

Yesterday we used our context clues to show us the different characteristics of the characters in
the story we are reading. Today we will be using our context clues to figure out where our
setting of our story is. From the pictures below write down some characteristics of the setting.

In what ways does the content of the message support the academic curriculum and engage the
learners?
The message is updated to what the students are currently learning and gives them an insight to
what we will be learning later in class. There is also an engaging activity for the students to do on
their own.
What academic skills are children practicing as they read and work with the message before the
meeting? During the meeting?
The students are learning the different parts of a story and how to use their context clues to give
them information about the story.
What does the teacher do to manage behavior during the work with the message?
The teacher will read the morning message out loud and have the students work silently on the
small prompt. The class will discuss what the students wrote down with a guided discussion by the
teacher.
