2) Initially particle is moving in +x direction.
3) Distance travelled in first 6 seconds is 18 m.
4) Acceleration is constant throughout the motion.
Ans: 1,3,4 Marks: 4 Negative Marks: 2
Solution: x = t2 – 6t + 4
v = 2t – 6
v(0) = –6m/s
x(0) = 4m
x(3) = 9 – 18 + 4 = –5
x(6) = 36 – 36 + 4 = +4

distance = 9 + 9 = 18 m

A light inextensible string connects a block of mass m and top of wedge of mass M. The string is
parallel to inclined surface and the inclined surface makes an angle θ with horizontal as shown. All
surfaces are smooth. Now a constant horizontal force of minimum magnitude F is applied to
wedge towards right such that the normal reaction on block exerted by wedge just becomes zero.

2) g cotθ
3) g sinθ
4) g cosθ
Ans: 2 Marks: 3 Negative Marks: 1
Solution: From wedge constraint, if acceleration of wedge is a then component of acceleration of
block normal to inclined surface is a sinθ. Applying newtons law to block in direction normal

to the inclined surface.
mg cosθ – N = ma sinθ
for N to be zero, mg cosθ = ma sinθ or a = gcotθ

10. The magnitude of tension in string is :

1) mg secθ
2) mg cosecθ
3) mg tanθ
4) mg cotθ
Ans: 2 Marks: 3 Negative Marks: 1
Solution: Since normal reaction is zero and the acceleration of block is
horizontal, The net vertical force on block is zero.

Therefore T sinθ = mg,

or T = mg cosec θ

SEC2

This section contains TWO paragraphs.

Based on each paragraph, there are TWO questions.
Each question has FOUR options (A), (B), (C) and (D) ONLY ONE of these four options is correct.
For each question, select the alphabet corresponding to the correct option provided below the
questions.
Marking scheme:
+3 If only the alphabet corresponding to the correct option is selected.
0 If none of the alphabets are selected.
–1 In all other cases.

Let x, y, z are positive reals and x + y + z = 60 and x > 3.

45. maximum value of (x - 3) (y + 1) (z + 5) is
1) (17) (21) (25)
2) (21) (21) (21)
3) (20) (21) (23)
4) (23) (19) (15)
Ans: 2 Marks: 3 Negative Marks: 1
Solution: Not Provided

46. Maximum value of xyz is

1) 27 × 103
2) 64 × 103
3) 8 × 103
4) 125 × 103
Ans: 3 Marks: 3 Negative Marks: 1
Solution: Not Provided

Using sine and cosine rules and any standard formulae for a triangle, answer the following
questions :
(All the symbols means the usual)
47. is equal to :

1) R 2) 2R 3) r 4) 2r
Ans: 2 Marks: 3 Negative Marks: 1
Solution: We have

48. If (a + b + c)(b + c – a) = λbc, then :

18/21
1) 0 < λ < 4
2) 0 < λ ≤ 3
3) 0 < λ ≤ 2
4) 0 < λ ≤ 1
Ans: 1 Marks: 3 Negative Marks: 1
Solution: We have
λbc = (b + c)2 – a2 = (b2 + c2 – a2) + 2bc
Therefore
bc(λ – 2) = b2 + c2 – a2

Hence

But
(∵ b + c > a)
Therefore
0 < λ < 4 (∵ λ = 4 ⇒ cosA = 1)

SEC3

This section has SIX questions.

The answer to each question is a NUMERICAL VALUE.
For each question, enter the correct numerical value (in decimal notation, truncated/rounded-off
to the second decimal place).
For each question, type the correct integer in the space provided below the question using
provided number keys.
Marking scheme:
+2 If the correct integer is typed in the provided space.
0 In all other cases.

49. Consider the vertices of ΔABC as A(2,1), B(α, α) and C(β, 0); α, β ∈ R – {0}. The perimeter of
ΔABC is S.
The minimum value of S is -
Ans: 3.16 Marks: 2 Negative Marks: 0
Solution:

B lies on the line y = x, while C lies on x-axis.

Note that BA = BA' & CA = CA"
Hence, S = BA' + BC + CA", which is minimum.
A'A" is y + 3x = 5

50. Consider the vertices of ΔABC as A(2,1), B(α, α) and C(β, 0); α, β ∈ R – {0}. The perimeter of
ΔABC is S.

When 'S' is minimum, then is

Ans: 1.40 Marks: 2 Negative Marks: 0
Solution:

19/21
B lies on the line y = x, while C lies on x-axis.
Note that BA = BA' & CA = CA"
Hence, S = BA' + BC + CA", which is minimum.
A'A" is y + 3x = 5

53. Let α = log 5.log 7.log 9 ... log 27 & , γ = log2(log2(x2 – 4)).
3 5 7 25
(α + β) is
Ans: 3.00 Marks: 2 Negative Marks: 0
Solution:
log2(log2(x2 – 4)) = 1
log2(x2 – 4) = 2
x2 – 4 = 4

54. Let α = log 5.log 7.log 9 ... log 27 & , γ = log2(log2(x2 – 4)).
3 5 7 25
Number of value(s) of x satisfying γ = 1 is -
Ans: 2.00 Marks: 2 Negative Marks: 0
Solution:
log2(log2(x2 – 4)) = 1
log2(x2 – 4) = 2
x2 – 4 = 4

SEC4

This section has THREE questions.

The answer to each question is a NON-NEGATIVE INTEGER.
For each question, type the correct integer in the space provided below the question using
provided number keys.
Marking scheme:
+4 If the correct integer is typed in the provided space.
0 In all other cases.

55. If the letters of the word "MASTER" are written in all possible ways and then arranged as in a

20/21
dictionary, then the rank of the word "MASTER" is 2n + 1, the value of n is
Ans: 8 Marks: 4 Negative Marks: 0
Solution: "MASTER"
Rank of master is 257 = 256 + 1 = 28 + 1
⇒n=8

56. Number of points of intersection of the curves 3|x| + 4|y| = 12 and x2 + y2 = 16 are
Ans: 2 Marks: 4 Negative Marks: 0
Solution:

57. Let a, b, c are the roots of the equation x3 – 2x2 + 3x – 4 = 0, then the value of

is
Ans: 2 Marks: 4 Negative Marks: 0
Solution: We have to calculate

Now x3 – 2x2 + 3x – 4 = 0
∴ abc = 4
Also x3 – 2x2 + 3x – 4 = (x – a)(x – b)(x –c)
Put x = i & –i and multiply, we get
∴ (a2 + 1) (b2 + 1) (c2 + 1) = 8
