Objects from the past can help us to understand what life was like many years
ago. They can also show us that we use many of the same objects today! In Ancient
Egypt, many people used mirrors to help them paint around their eyes. This was not
just to make them look good: the paint helped to protect their eyes from the sun and
kept away insects. The mirrors were made of metal and had interesting designs.
Where do you have mirrors in your home?
The Ancient Egyptians used pots and bowls for making food. These objects were

3) Read the following text, then answer the questions: (6 marks)
A goal is something you want to achieve. First, decide what your goal is. For example, do
you want to pass a test? Do you want to be a doctor? When you have decided on your goal,
write it down on paper and look at it every day. Then decide what you must do to succeed.
Some people never reach their goal because they think it is impossible. But you must
always believe that your goals are possible. Don’t think, ‘This test is difficult. I’ll
probably fail’. Instead, think, ‘This test is difficult, but I’ve worked hard and I will pass it’.
Most people are successful at things they enjoy. So always try to enjoy your work. Keep
looking at the goal you wrote on paper and think how happy you will be when you succeed.
Think about that happiness while you are working and you will enjoy your work.
To sum up, winners have goals and try to achieve them while losers waste their time
doing nothing useful. Always give yourself goals and make every effort to fulfil them.

(1)“Ashortstoryyouenjoyedreading”

I like reading short stories so much. Adventure stories are my favourite ones. My
favourite story is “Alice’s Adventures in wonderland”. It’s a children’s story by Lewis
Carrol. He wrote it in 1865. Alice is the main character of the story. She is a clever girl.
She is also sensible. She goes to wonderland and meets a lot of interesting characters
there. She meets the White Rabbit who is always busy and in a hurry. The Cheshire Cat
is a funny animal. He has got a big smile and he is very friendly. He tells Alice
about Wonderland. In addition, he helps her to find different places and characters. The
Queen of Hearts is not very nice. She is always angry and shouts at people. Alice is
brave, so she is not frightened of her. At the end of the story, all the characters help
Alice so she can go home again. I learned from this story that friendship is very
important. Really, I admire this story very much.

(2) “ An adventure story you read ”

I like reading short stories so much. My favourite kind of short stories is adventure
ones. I like adventures and excitement. I read an adventure story yesterday. It’s titled
as “Robinson Crusoe”. It’s an adventure story by Daniel Defoe. Robinson Crusoe
was a sailor. His ship thank because there was a bad storm. Crusoe swam to a nearby
island, but there were no other people there. He walked along the beach. He found a
fish and ate it. It tasted bad. Then, he found a nut on the beach. It was delicious. He
wrote about what happened to him on the island in his diary. Crusoe grew his own
food and made his own clothes. He built a house. He saw a beautiful valley where
there were orange and lemon trees and melons. He built a second house there to be
safe from dangerous animals and people. Some people came to the island. Crusoe
made friends with them. Finally, a ship came and saved Crusoe. It took him to his
country, England. This story taught me self-reliance.

(3)“Ashortstoryofadayyouspentout”

Last week, our school went on a trip to the Pyramids. It was my first time to visit and
see the Pyramids. I spent a very beautiful day there. I enjoyed riding a camel and a
horse. There were lots of tourists. I spoke to them in English and it was really a good
experience to improve my English. The Pyramids were built by the ancient Egyptians
thousands of years age. They are really amazing. Our great ancient Egyptians were really
great builders and engineers. I knew they built the Pyramids at first as tombs for
themselves. We took lots of photos there. We bought lots of souvenirs. I’d like to invite
you to come to Giza and visit them. Really, you will enjoy and learn a lot of things. It was
a nice day. I hope I will go there again one day.

Everyone of us usually has many life experiences. I want to talk about one of my
life experiences that I still remember. I was born into a wonderful family. I have lived
in a town in the south of Egypt all my life. I like living here. There are lots of things to
do. I joined a handball club and I have won lots of matches with my team. It is really
fun. I have never been to another country, but last year I visited Cairo with my uncle
and my cousins! It was so big and busy, but it was fun. We went to lots of museums
because I am very interested in history. We saw many statues. We saw mummy rooms
as well. We saw the mask of Tutankhamen. These museums contain lots of beautiful
objects. It was really an new and exciting life experience for me.

(5) “ A happy event that has happened to you recently ”

I had an experience I will never forget. I always like walking in the fields, on my
own. My mother used to advise me not to do so, but I thought I was right. One day, I
was alone in a faraway part of the fields. It was very

early in the morning and there weren’t so many farmers there. Suddenly, I saw a
group of five or six large dogs in front of me. I wasn’t afraid at all. When the dogs got
nearer to me, I wasn’t afraid and I was standstill. After a minute, the dogs moved away.
To my surprise, I was being watched by the field owner. He asked a worker to come
and asked me to go to him. When I met him, he was happy that I was brave and gave
me some beautiful presents for both my parents and me.

(6) A biography about a person I admire ” / Role Model / Dr. Magdy Yacoub

There are many famous people in all fields of life. Doctor Magdy Yacoub is one of
them. Dr Magdy was born in Bilbeis in 1935, but his family used to travel to many
places because his father was an important doctor. Magdy went to Cairo University
and became an important heart surgeon. He helped people with heart problems for
many years. He used to work in a special hospital in London. At this hospital, Magdy
used to help to give people new hearts for the first time. He stopped most of his
work a long time ago, but in 2006, he started a charity to help children with heart
problems in Aswan. He made a lot of achievements during his career. In addition,
he got many awards and titles. So, he was honoured for his contributions to
medicine and heart surgery. All the Egyptians are proud of him. Really, I admire him
very much.

(7) “Abiographyofafamoussportsman”/Rolemodel/A person you admire

Sportsmen are famous all over the world and have a lot of fans everywhere.
Mohamed Salah is the person who I admire most. He was born in a village in Gharbia.
He has got short, curly hair. He usually has a big smile. He is polite and hard-working.
He is very kind, too. He always talks to his fans. He gives money to build schools and
hospitals. As a footballer, Salah has a bright career. He played for many teams such as
Roma in Italy and Basel in Switzerland. Now, he plays for Liverpool in England. He
scores many goals. He’s a fast runner. He added much speed to Liverpool team.
Players became so active and presented great shows and good results after Salah’s
joining them. Salah scored many goals for the Egyptian team. He got many prizes and
awards. He enjoys playing video games and watching TV in his free time. Liverpool
fans call him, “The Egyptian King”. Really I am very proud of him like any other
Egyptian.

(8) A biography of the Egyptian space engineer Samar Abdelfattah ” / Role model

Everyone of us has a role model in his life. Samar Abdelfattah is my role model. As
a young child, Samar wanted to be an astronaut. After she finished school, she went
to Cairo University to study space engineering. While she was at University, a
space technology company had a competition. Students had to design a new form of
transport that travels above the ground. It’s called “hyperloop”. Samar decided to
enter the competition. She asked other engineering students from university to join
her team. Many other teams all over the world entered, but Samar’s team won the
competition as they worked hard on the design. She travelled to America to receive
an award. I really admire her very much as she is very ambitious.

(9) A biography about a person in your family ”

I want to write about my father because he is a great man. He was born in Tanta in
1947. When he was young, he wanted to be a doctor. Although he was born into a poor
family, he decided to study hard. He was clever and intelligent. After finishing school,
he joined the faculty of medicine. After that he graduated and became a great surgeon.
He did a lot of operations and helped many patients. All people liked and admired
him because he was kind and helpful. He decided to leave a lot of money to build a
hospital for the poor. I am very proud of my father.

(10)“AbiographyofFatmaEl-Banna”

Fatma Ali El-Banna was born in Alexandria in 2003. As a child, she loved learning
about science and wanted to be a great scientist. After she finished Preparatory
School, she started at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths school
(STEM) in Alexandria. She then learnt more and more about science as well as how to
look after the environment and Egypt's culture. When she was at school, she came first
in Egypt in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, a problem solving
competition for scientists around the world. Later, she worked on a school project. She
found a natural way for villages to clean dirty and to recycle used water. Really, I
admire her character very much.

(11) A biography of Nada Zaher ”

Nada Zaher was born in Alexandria, Egypt. As a child, she played a lot of tennis.
When she was a teenager, she found out that she had a sports scholarship to go to
Columbia University in the USA. Then she went to the USA to study and play tennis.
After university, she returned to Egypt and decided to help more international
athletes to study in other countries. Now she helps students from Egypt and other
countries to follow their dreams. So, she started a company to connect athletes with
universities in the USA and helped them to find scholarships.

(12)“Areviewonanitemyouboughtonline”

In fact, online shopping has become more and more common nowadays. Last week,
I bought a coffee machine online. I have a positive opinion about it for many reasons. I
bought it as a present for my parents. I saw it on a website on the internet. Its price was
not expensive. I asked the company to deliver it. The delivery didn’t take a long time.
They delivered it after one day. When my parents saw it, they were happy with it. It
looked great and was not broken. When they began to use it, it was easy to use. It
made delicious coffee. Finally, I advise all of you to buy this machine from the same
company because I think they are honest and their products are good.

(13) A review about the pros and cons of modern technology ”

Technology is very important. It has changed our lives greatly. Technology has
become a symbol of progress especially at our homes. It’s a must to use technology in
modern life. Mobile phones, TV sets, tablets and laptops are forms of modern
technology. These technological devices have made our life easier and more enjoyable.
In addition, they tell us about what happens in our world. They also make us watch
football matches all over the world and follow our likes in an easy and quick way. They
help us to watch the news and listen to the weather forecasts. On the other hand, they
made us lazy, feel bored and be away from our real life. Many people stopped visiting
their relatives. Many young children spend most of their time playing games, watching
much TV or using tablets. Such things affect their health badly and spoil their eyesight.
In my opinion, we should be aware of the dangers of modern

(14)“AreviewaboutyourvisittoIsmailia”

Egypt has a lot of interesting places in all of its parts. Ismailia is a beautiful city.
Last week, I visited Ismailia. I went there with my family. We went there by train. There
were many beautiful views from the windows. Ismailia is between Port Said and Suez.
Around 350,000 people live there. It’s a peaceful city because there isn’t much
traffic there. There, we visited attractive buildings and interesting monuments. It also
has a lot of gardens. There, we visited Lake Timsah. It’s a beautiful lake with
wonderful beaches. Ismailia is also famous for its museums. The most famous one is
the Natural Science Museum. In Ismailia, you can sit on beaches, go swimming and
enjoy some water sports. I invite you to visit this wonderful city to enjoy its places and
weather.

(15)“Areviewofteenagers’problems”

Teenagers around the world have a lot of problems, and today I'd like to talk
about bullying and its effects. Many people have terrible memories from school,
because of the bullying they have experienced. It's important to keep in mind that there
are different kinds of bullying, and different solutions: Physical bullying is the most
common form of bullying. Verbal bullying is when someone insults and calls others
names: he or she uses hurting language to upset others. Emotional bullying is even
more serious than verbal bullying. It's to try to get someone else to feel lonely and
depressed. Cyberbullying is becoming a very serious problem for teens. This type of
bullying uses messaging, mobile phone text messages and online social networks. We
need to keep teens aware of such bullies and teach them how to ask for help.

(16) “A review of the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship”

I like handball very much. It is my favourite sport. I was so proud that the 2021
World Men's Handball Championship was held in Egypt. It was from the 13th to the 31st
of January 2021. It was also the third World Championship held in Africa, the second in
Egypt, and the first to be held outside Europe since 2015. There were over 600
competitors from 32 countries. The 32 teams were divided into eight groups of four
teams each. It was a great event. The medical team has worked for months to make the
tournament safe. Players and people working at the tournament have used four hotels
and stayed inside a bubble. These hotels all have a health centre and every team has
had a doctor to work with them. We were all very proud of our beloved country and
the success of organising the championship.

(17) “A review of your trip to El-Orman Gardens”

My name is Mahmoud. I'm very happy to visit El-Orman Gardens! It's a famous
place to visit. The garden opens at 9 am, and it takes about an hour to there by car. The
online reviews are fantastic. The gardens are very big and there are lots to see. Make
sure that you wear comfortable shoes you can see wild flowers and plants from all
over the country. There is also a small lake and a museum. What would you like to see
first? We could bring some food with us or we could go to a nearby cafe for lunch.
What would you prefer? There is also a lovely shop near the garden that sells pottery
and jewellery. Really, such gardens worth visiting.

(18)“Areviewofonlineshopping”

We all know that shopping online is very useful because it has many advantages. It
saves time and money. You buy what you want without moving however, my opinion
about that changed when I decided to buy a present online. I visited websites for
electronics until I found this website. I ordered a toaster as a present for my mother on
her birthday. The website said the delivery would be in two days, but the delivery
arrived in two weeks. I opened the box and put it in the kitchen. It looked great and
good, but when I plugged it in, it made smoke then a fire. That was terrible. At once I
called them and asked them I want to send it back. They were kind and they were sorry.
After two days a new toaster arrived. It was really great in the kitchen. My mum was
very happy with it.

(19) “A review of some items that you have in your kitchen”

We all agree that electronics is very important in our life. It makes our life easier and
better. Our kitchen has modern items. I have an expensive kettle. I use it to get hot
water. It is useful. I also have a microwave. It helps me cook food very quickly. It is
expensive. My dad bought me a toaster last year. I use it to make bread turn brown. It
is less useful than the microwave. It is also less expensive. I have a big fridge. I use it
to keep foods and drinks cool. It is the most useful item in my kitchen. It is the
most expensive, too.

(20) “A review about handicrafts in Egypt”

Egypt is famous for its beautiful handicrafts. There are many places in Egypt that
make handicrafts. The handicrafts in Egypt include wooden boxes, leather products,
pottery and carpets. The Egyptian handicrafts are always cheap and are the best quality.
The wooden boxes are decorated in traditional designs. The leather bags are wonderful
because the leather is soft. The pots are in different colours and types. The most
important handicraft in Egypt is making carpets. The carpets have many colours and
aren't expensive. Tourists from all over the world come to Egypt to buy these handicrafts
because they are famous all other the world.

(21)“Areviewabout Cyberbullying”

Using the internet is very important. We use it to do many things. I think it has a lot
of pros and cons. The internet has many advantages. It is very useful for sharing
information. We can easily know what's happening in other parts of the world. You can
ask any question on the internet and immediately get the answer. The worst
disadvantage of the internet is cyberbullying. Some people may cyberbully others in
different ways. They may write bad comments on their photos or posts. Cyberbullying
makes people sad and embarrassed. We must punish people who cyberbully others. We
should be careful on the internet.

(22)“Areviewoftheproblemsinyourcommunity”

I live in a great community. We have leisure and sports facilities in my town. There
are also many shopping centres. However, my community has got some problems.
There are many poor people living here. I’m so sad about that. I’m working on a project
in my community. We have a plan that can make a difference to the poor people. We are
going to help them. We are going to help deliver some medicines to their houses. We
plan to help find work for them. We must all do our best to help them. We also plan
to plant some trees to make our streets cleaner as there aren’t many trees there. We
must work hard to be proud of our community and make it better.

(23)" The Decent Life Initiative" .

The Decent Life Initiative is an exciting plan that is really making a difference to
about 32 million people who live in rural areas in Egypt. The initiative aims to improve
the quality of public services. It provides more health care, better education and better
job opportunities. Since 2019, the Decent Life Initiative has helped people in 377
villages to have clean water. It has also helped to repair their houses and it has sent
doctors to the villages to deliver medicine and help people who are ill. It has
also improved facilities for disabled people, and is helping more children to have a
better education by building schools in the villages. The Decent Life Initiative will
continue to help people in poor neighbourhoods around the country. That really is an
amazing plan!

(24) " A review about Dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading,
writing and spelling. A person with dyslexia may read and write very slowly and
confuse the order of letters in words put letters the wrong way round (such as writing
"b" instead of "d") the person with a dyslexia should have a special help at school to
solve this problem. People with dyslexia typically have trouble reading fluently. They
often read slowly and make mistakes. That can impact how well they comprehend
what they read. But when other people read to them, they often have no problem
understanding the text.

(25)" A review about tourist attractions in Egypt".

Egypt has a lot of tourist attractions. Egypt also has worldwide tourist cities. A lot of
tourists come to visit Egypt all the year. We have Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada and
they are visited by millions of people every year. We have beaches you will never find in
other places. We also have hotels with good qualities. I can't say that our water sports
activities are rare, but I can say the nature and its beauty we have is rare. We have great
historical museums and temples in Luxor and Aswan. All I mentioned above is few! But
when you visit Egypt, you'll learn more and more.

(26)" A review about a community project" .

We all love our community and want to give services to help improve it. I and some
of my friends decided to meet to discuss how to do a project to help our community. At
our meeting, we decided to start a local charity, where people can donate food to
families who need it. We got some ideas from a network for our project. Everyone in our
community should be cooperative and helpful. We can design pages on the internet, call
for anyone who can help us. We need volunteers to help us plan and complete this
project. Please, we should not neglect that to be a developed country and improve our
community.

(27)" A review of STEM schools".

STEM schools (science, technology, engineering and maths) are special

schools which focus on developing students’ ability in these subjects. Students who
are very good at STEM subjects can also help develop the technology of the future.
There are now STEM schools around the world where lessons are different to
those in usual schools. Teachers encourage students to do projects where they work
together to solve problems. In Egypt, there are now STEM schools around the country
and more will be built in the future. STEM school students must be hardworking.
Experts say that there will be many more jobs in the future that need skills in STEM
subjects. You will be lucky if you enter these schools.
