ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First and foremost, praises and thanks to the God, the Almighty, for His showers of

blessings throughout our research work to complete the research successfully. This

research would not have been successful without the help and guidance of several

people who help and cooperate in the preparation and completion of this study. We

would like to express our deep and sincere gratitude to our English teacher Mrs.Lilian

Guinea. We extend our appreciation to the research team members who worked

diligently to ensure the smooth execution of the study. Their dedication and

collaborative efforts were instrumental in the success of this research project. To our

respondents, the grade 9 students, who willingly and enthusiastically shared their

experiences and provided valuable data for this study. Without their cooperation, this

research would not have been possible. To our friends who shared their support. And

most of all to our parents and family for their financial and endless support for us in

doing our study. Thank you all for being an integral part of this journey and for

contributing to the advancement of knowledge in this field.

Introduction

The home has an impact on the child from the very beginning of his/her life, when

his/her mind is most receptive. It makes a first impression on the child that may last for

the rest of his or her life. Parents, siblings, and things in the child's immediate

environment are often seen as the most important, and they have the power to boost

or degrade his self-worth and academic performance. The family, as a strong influence

on the child and as a primary agent of socialization, will undoubtedly help or hinder the

child's academic achievement, depending on the family's social environment. In the

family, there is a wide range of psychosocial and emotional fortification. The issue of a

broken home is a worldwide phenomenon that affects both developed and developing

countries. Here in our modern age a family could be two things, complete or broken.
Having a broken family can cause a child’s miserable life. Some children can be

rebellious and have unclear acts because of a broken family. School, is our second

home where we learn every little things in the world that will mold us to be a better

human being and to help us to become successful, but how will it make us successful if

we can’t focus. We can’t do normal schooling like other students because of the

problems that we encounter in our homes. Slowed academic development is another

way that separation of the parents affects children. The emotional stress of a divorce

alone can be enough to stunt your child’s academic progress, but the lifestyle changes

and instability of a broken family can contribute to poor educational outcomes. This

study is primarily focused on the impact of a broken family to the SPNHS Grade 9

Curriculum academic performance in order to develop an action plan to assist

pupils/learners in achieving success and overcoming negative experiences.

Methodology

2.1. RESEARCH DESIGN

This study utilize a descriptive- survey design. Surveys are often part of

research designs (usually in the form of a questionnaire) and in this study, a survey is

used to probe the pupil’s knowledge with regards to the influence of broken families on

their mental development and academic success.

2.2. ENVIRONMENTAL AND PARTICIPANTS

The purposefully chosen grade 9 students at SPNHS in San Pedro, Pagadian City,

Philippines who came from broken families during the academic year 2022–2023

served as the study's target respondents. One of Pagadian City's Schools serves as the

location. At SPNHS, a total of 20 students who came from broken families were

identified.
