I. Background Information for the learners

Information, as available data everywhere, can be found in various platforms
and means such as news reports, speeches, informative talks, panel discussions,
social media, and others.
Getting information will basically expose you not only to the pool of information
but should also help you identify which details are factual and not. In getting
information, examining the reliability of the sources is necessary.
For instance, in reading Facebook posts you must be aware of their source and
the details the posts are giving. In this way, you can determine whether the
information is reliable and accurate.
In this lesson, you are expected to identify certain details from different sources
and use them in various contexts.

II. Learning Competency

Use information from news reports, speeches, informative talks, panel discussions,
etc. in everyday life (EN10LC-Ia-11.1)

It Begins Here

“It’s still early to go home,” I whisper while sitting on a bench in the corridor. I’m thinking
about what to do during my free time after my afternoon class. “Aha, I will roam around and
see what I can do,” I say to myself. I walk through the corridor, and unfortunately, a group of
students bumps me into an open door.
Fixing my bag, I hear a soft voice says, “Welcome to the world of learning.” Amazed
by what I heard I step on my feet slowly to completely get into the place that I was never been
before. I look up and in silence I utter, “Map of Atimonan, The Biographies of Mayors of
Atimonan, and A Collection of Poems of Jose La Villa Tierra.” I bend in half and see The
History of Our Lady of the Angels Parish and the commentaries about the Mermaid Statue in
Brgy. Angeles.
I turn to my left, and surprisingly I see what my teacher in English asked us to find.
“They are all here,” I exclaim. “Sshhhhh,” the soft voice says. So, I quickly get my pen and
paper and write down, Grolier’s Encyclopedia, Webster Dictionary, Philippine Almanacs, and
Atlas.
Ting! Ting! Ting! Ting! “It’s already five o’clock, you can come back tomorrow,” says
the soft voice standing near the door. “Thank you, I will visit again,” I speak. Before I turn my
back, I whisper “It begins here.”
