DIRECTION TO THE CANDIDATE:
1. This Assessment Paper (AP) is to assess your performance on leadership and strategic
planning, develop FM strategic plan, formulate sound business case, plan coaching and
motivation session, plan work delegation and empowerment, nurture teamwork and
spirit among workers. Please complete the assignment below within 14 days.
2. Carefully review the submission checklist and contact your resource person for
consultation. You must complete all steps satisfactorily within the time given.
3. Submit complete AP (in Softcopy PDF format). No mark will be given to late submission
hence will be given Not Yet Competent as result. Passing mark is 70%.
4. Range number of pages and the minimum contents of AP are recommended as follows:

ASSESSMENT QUESTION:
Malek has been assigned to lead a team of 30 staffs to manage a facility management services
for a shopping mall (you can create your own project background). They have been working
together for over six months and they just haven’t really come together as a team. He was
sure he started off well. He contacted everyone on the team and let them know their
responsibilities on the project.
Each of the members gets the tasks completed, but don’t seem concerned with the others on
the team. If someone needs help, no one willing to assist. If a team member has a problem,
no one helps him to solve that problem. Just yesterday one of the team members had an
emergency and asked if someone on the team could have a call with the building executive so
he could leave early. No one offered to help so Malek jumped in to assist. Malek had to do
something. This was a bad experience for everyone.
As staff become distressed, the leader is becoming frustrated. Malek feels like he is unable to
advocate for his staffs or solve problems without support from team members. Some staffs
already were talking about leaving the company. Plus, he felt the project won’t be as good as
it could if they just came together as a team.
Your Assessment Report should at least answer the questions below:
a) Develop a FM strategic plan with core business and business process are both
determined.
b) Establish a business case by determining recommended solutions on identified
problems and issues at the project.
c) Confirm gap between business objective and operation performance that exist due to
lack of teamwork among staffs.
d) Arrange type of work for delegation and empowerment including identified list of
team members for work delegation and empowerment.
e) Confirm teamwork activity among team members by producing roles and
responsibility via organising structure so that the team will: share work, meet the
objectives of the project, solve problems, and resolve conflicts and make decisions.
