Lab One Homework Assignment Part One7 Dimensions of Health Assignment

1. What is YOUR definition of health?

Health is composed of two major aspects, physical and mental health,
which are dependent on each other. Physical health is the internal and external
condition which your body is in, and its ability to operate. Mental health is the
state in which a persons’ emotional and mental contentment is in.

2. Are all of the seven dimensions of health of equal value to you at this time in
your life
Of the seven dimensions, certain ones are more applicable to my life at
this time. For example, the physical, emotional, and social dimensions are
more relevant to my life right now because as a new university student, these
are the dimensions which need to be focused on the most in regards to studying
and adapting to a new environment. The remainder of the seven dimensions are
of less value to my life at this moment because they are not aspects of my
health which are generally impaired as a new university student.

3. Are you currently in a condition of good health?

When assessing my health using my definition of health and the
dimensions of health which I previously stated to be relevant to me right now, I
do not believe that I am currently in a good state of health. I am not in a
condition of good health because due to the changes I am encountering in my
emotional and physical state, I find myself having abnormally high levels of
stress. Furthermore, I expected that my social life would prosper in my new
environment (University of Guelph), but I feel my social life is diminishing due
to my overall health.

4. Have you effectively debunked the following myth: “I look fine and nothing
hurts; I must be healthy”? Explain
I believe that I have proved the myth wrong. I understand that the myth
is inaccurate because according to my definition of health, mental health is a
large component of health, so looking fine and feeling physically adequate is
not enough information to justify that a person is indeed healthy. Additionally,
although one might feel and look fine, many physical complications do not
include any symptoms whatsoever.
