I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The first Timezone Family Entertainment Center was established in 1978 and inaugurated

by Leisure & Allied Industries in Perth, Western Australia (now LAI Games). Timezone was the

first family-friendly video amusement center, in contrast to the conventional pinball parlors and

pool halls of the time. The brand's primary focus is always on the family and friends bonding.

Timezone expanded internationally in 1995 as a result of its success in Australia. Currently,

Timezone has more than 200 sites where it is active, including those in Australia, India,

Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Ayala Land Inc. and Timezone Australia collaborated on Timezone Philippines. With

more than 50 locations across the nation, it is currently the top family entertainment center in the

nation. The largest selection of simulator, redemption, park, and kiddie rides can be found at

Timezone. Timezone provides the young and the young-at-heart with many video arcade games

to play with friends and family. The activities in Timezone’s arcade game rooms will also keep

everyone entertained for hours on end. The brand strives to provide cutting-edge equipment that

will enhance the "Timezone" experience. Timezone's heart and soul are skillfully encapsulated in

the tagline TIME FOR FUN. This name stands for a fun entertainment spot where visitors can

travel to a different time zone or dimension. As a result, the name Timezone is quickly, if not

already, becoming synonymous with these entertainment establishments as a whole.

II. CURRENT INDUSTRY SITUATION ANALYSIS

A. The Industry

Families, young adults, and teenagers are the three main market segments that Leisure

and Allied Industries (LAI) Philippines and its Timezone Family Entertainment Centers (FECs)

target. Each of these groups visits Timezone for a different reason.

The primary market for Timezone is represented by the word "Family" as it appears in the

acronym FEC. This is fueled by the family's revered position in Filipino culture, which includes,

but is not limited to, seeking out entertainment opportunities to foster family ties and build

lasting, joyful memories. Affluent, working young adults—social "yuppies" who appreciate

Timezone as a stress-relieving place to meet coworkers and personal friends alike—make up a

significant portion of the secondary market. Thirdly, Timezone is the pinnacle of secure gathering

places for teenagers, providing a healthy, vibrant, and competitive atmosphere for the forming of

new friendships and the reunion of old ones.

Finally, a significant part is played by the wildly popular phenomena of "malling" across

the country. Malls are where hordes of people go to dine, buy, and amuse themselves in a

seamless combination of toddlers, young children, teenagers, and older family members enjoying

leisure time together. As a result, by cunning planning, all 45 of Timezone's presences in the

nation are situated therein.

B. The Service Business

Leisure and Allied Industries, Pty. (LAI Australia) was established in 1958 and currently

manages approximately 175 FECs throughout Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, and

India under the trade name Timezone. Late in 1997, Ayala Land, Inc. formed a partnership with

LAI Australia to form Leisure and Allied Industries (LAI) Philippines, Inc.

At the Ayala Center in Cebu, the first Timezone for the Philippines debuted in January

1998. The Timezone flagship FEC in Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, came next swiftly. The latter is

Timezone's flagship because it has the largest and most modern selection of simulator games,

family and adult recreation activities, and child rides, and it is 909 square meters in size. Between

May 1999 and October 2004, there were a flurry of openings, and Timezone opened 14 additional

facilities in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

Ten additional centers were opened in 2005 at the following locations: Market, Greenhills

Promenade, Blue Wave at Marquinton, NCCC Tagum, Gateway Araneta, and Waltermart Makati.

Market! Timezone was formally established as the leading FEC in the country with the

inauguration of TZ Active, NCCC Magsaysay, Robinsons Metro East, and Ayala Center Cebu 3rd

Level.

- Timezone offers a wide variety of arcade games for everyone to enjoy. Enjoy a fun family

outing, romantic date, gathering with friends, or even just a little me-time as you play away

with a Powercard in hand. Some of the arcade game machines include Pearl Fishery, Wangan

Maxi Tune 6RR, Basketball, and the 9D VR Simulator Ride

- A video game, also known as a computer game, is an electronic game that can be interacted

with using an input device, such as a controller, keyboard, or joystick. Video games can be

Karaoke Rooms

- There is also a Music Zone within the Timezone at TriNoma mall where you can sing and

Air Hockey

- Air hockey is a Pong-like tabletop sport where two opposing players try to score goals against

each other on a low-friction table using two hand-held discs ("mallets") and a lightweight

plastic puck.

Ferris Wheel

- Timezone at Trinoma also offers the Ferris wheel consists of a rotating upright wheel with

lots of little pods or cars for fairground lovers to sit in.

Photobooth

- A photo booth is a vending machine or modern kiosk that contains an automated, usually

coin-operated, camera and film processor.

Owner of Timezone

The Indoor Amusement Games Company (later known as LAI Group) was started by

Malcolm Steinberg in Perth with a small number of pinball machines. In 1978, he created the first

Timezone on Murray Street, Western Australia in an effort to alter people's opinions of arcades.

And it was the beginning of the Family Entertainment Center.

In 1958, Malcolm established the Perth, Australia-based Leisure & Allied Industries

(LAI) group. He was the organization's CEO for 55 years, from 1950 to 2013, and is currently a

non-executive Director.

More than 200 family entertainment centers are now functioning throughout Australia,

New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Singapore, and Vietnam thanks to Malcolm's

leadership of the Timezone company. Malcolm Steinberg earned the American Amusement

Machine Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. (AAMA). It was the first and only

time a non-American received the prize.

C. Competition

A. World Of Fun

World of Fun or WOF is one of the amusement industries in the Philippines that operates

family entertainment centers throughout the country. The first-ever store of World of Fun was

established way back in December 1987 in SM City, North Edsa. It was then known as PACO

Amusement Center, which stands for Pan-Asia Amusement Company. World of Fun is known for

delivering wholesome entertainment for the entire family and friends where it offers game

machines that cater to kids, parents, or even grandparents. Today, World of Fun has expanded to

over 100 store locations at prominent shopping malls and commercial centers in the Philippines.

B. Quantum

Quantum is one of the leisure establishments in the Philippines that offers a wide range of

entertainment services, including classic arcade fighting games, ticket-redemption games,

Quantum Amusement Corporation and is engaged in entertainment and recreational activities via

video game machines. It was established in 1995 and has been in the industry for 27 years today.

The majority of its stores are exclusively located at well-known malls nationwide, such as SM

Malls.

children and all the members of a Filipino family. In addition, Tom’s World may also serve as a

MARKET SHARE

According to the researcher's analysis of the market shares of different amusement

arcades facilities in the Philippines, including Timezone on the fourth floor of Trinoma, World of

Fun, Quantum, and Tom's World at SM North Edsa, Timezone in Trinoma has attained the largest

percentage of market share. Researchers went to every amusement arcade in SM North Edsa,

Trinoma, and Ayala Malls. We measured the market share based on the observation of the number

of people that visited the amusement arcade from weekdays to weekends. Although researchers

preferred the Timezone Trinoma, Ayala Malls Branch, we also conducted a study in the Timezone

SM North Edsa Branch. We found that there are more customers who were visiting the Timezone

rather than other amusement arcade facilities included in the analysis. And as for the market

share, it shows that 35% of the industry’s total revenue goes to Timezone. World of Fun also

attracted 30% of the industry, followed by Quantum who had 20%, and lastly the Tom’s World

who attained the lowest market share because Tom’s World has the least activities and game

machines offered.

Strengths

The Amusement Arcade is a place for everyone, and it should have an atmosphere that is

welcoming and comfortable to all. Timezone assured and considered the cleanliness and safety of

their customers, specifically with kids, providing the best time for fun with their families and/or

friends in the amusement facility. Mostly, Timezones are located in safe prime areas of the malls

that are safe for children. Customers also get to play clean and well-maintained arcade games.

Providing a safe environment for its customers is the most important factor and top priority of

Timezone as part of excellent customer service. Based on the researchers' experience, the staff

are always friendly and very accommodating whenever you need assistance, which makes it a

great place to spend your free time and destress.

The Amusement Facility has a great range of ages in relation to the target customers and

it will only not attract children but also those who have previously played, experienced, and

enjoyed the Amusement Facility. Timezone was able to attract and serve a wide variety of market

categories including generation y, z, and alpha since it greatly provides entertainment to people.

Arcade amusements are considered to be popular with both children and adolescents who enjoy

Timezone as a stress-relieving setting to meet and bond with their families and friends.

- Strong Brand Identity

Among all the amusement facilities in the Philippines, Timezone has positioned itself as

one of the favorite arcade centers in the Philippines. A significant factor in considering the best

arcade game center to visit is if they have the latest in what the gaming industry has to offer. And

that was the factor that Timezone achieved. Timezone has new and latest game machines and

activities which allows the people to enjoy and experience quality entertainment which results to

the Timezone to have a strong brand awareness.

Since the Timezone is an indoor amusement facility which is located inside the Trinoma,

factor is considered to be a huge advantage for Timezone since they have the ability to cater and

serve their customers whether it rains or shines. It can operate regardless of weather conditions

and it can serve their customers no matter what circumstances.

- High barriers to entry

The Amusement Arcades industry is usually dominated by few operators due to the high

entry level of barriers. This is because developing an amusement arcade requires a major capital

investment since it will need quality and updated game machines. It is also essential for the

company to have monthly maintenance in all its game machines in order to preserve the quality

and lessen the problems that might arise. As a result of this, the competition is quite low because

not everyone has enough capital to enter and develop an amusement arcade facility.

Weaknesses

- Competitors offer similar service and product

World of Fun, Quantum, and Tom’s World are the leading competitor brands of Timezone

that provide similar services. Timezone and its three competitors offer almost identical

entertainment, which is in fact a negative factor because it makes it easy for the customers to

switch to another amusement facility. Timezone must show the point of difference that makes

them and their services incomparable and unique.

- High Priced compared to its leading brands

In terms of pricing, Timzeone’s services are considered to be relatively expensive and are

on the top of the scale compared to its leading brands such as World of Fun, Tom’s World, and

Quantum. The prices of Timezone’s game machines is a bit pricey than its rivals but they said that

you will be getting what you paid for. However this is still considered as a negative factor that

could affect the customers, specifically the price-sensitive market because pricing has a big

impact on the offerings, and as we all know, if all things are equal, people would go for the

cheapest. And if we base it on the prices, there's a possibility that customers will choose to play in

another amusement arcade facility.

Opportunities

- Ability to develop new games.

One of the opportunities of Timezone is to create and develop new and exciting games

for their customers to offer. In this way, it will attract attention to their new and existing

customers and they would be able to experience and play unique games. Moreover, in a creative

industry designing a game allows you to apply creative skills to the construction of the game, and

being able to provide a game that other arcades don’t have will engage customers to keep coming

back to Timezone.

- Use of other ongoing events on a specific location to market rides and games

Timezone has over 50 outlets nationwide and being able to have a variety of events from

different locations is an opportunity for Timezone to showcase what they can offer to the public.

Different kinds of ongoing events in a specific location because the environment is changing

based on the consumers' demand, we’d like to adapt to the new surroundings as in that way

Timezone can offer services that are suitable and effective to every target market.

Providing promotional offers creates a communication opportunity to Timezone,

communication is an art, an art which creates formidable relationships with consumers that make

your brand unique. A brand needs to be different to survive, a sales promotion can be an

exemplary way to make a brand stand out from the crowd. It holds the potential to add unique

value to a customer through a competition or unique experience, creating a reason to choose your

services in a crowded market.

- Market development

A marketing development strategy is important to Timezone because it helps the arcade

to grow and reach new customers in a planned, structured way. Expanding their audience creates

the potential for more leads, more sales, and more revenue, but in-depth research is essential to

make sure there's value in targeting new customers. It also recognizes and enhances new sales

opportunities for the current range of services they offer in the market.

Having multiple product lines and different revenue channels allows Timezone to grow

its business as well to diversify risk and capitalize on its already established reputation. Adding

allowing you to cut expenses and concentrate on longer-term objectives. There will always be

difficulties while creating a new product or service in Timezone, and even the best-laid ideas

occasionally fail. This is particularly the case with much larger, long-standing organizations

which can often be less dynamic in their pace of change. Sluggish processes where decisions

aren’t made swiftly are not conducive to effective innovation.

- Breach in security and problems in electricity, etc.

Timezone is operated by the use of different kinds of types of machinery and programs to operate

efficiently, however, if breach in security and problems with electricity may arise it would cost a

lot of damage to the business. The electric power delivery system that carries electricity from

large central generators of Timezone could be severely damaged by a small number of

well-informed attackers. The system is inherently vulnerable because transmission lines may span

hundreds of miles, and many key facilities are unguarded and if not given enough attention it can

easily be damaged.

V. TACTICS, STRATEGIES, AND PROGRAMS

A. Service Development Program

Installment of Kiosk Loading Machine

Since most of the time, the cashier area which is connected and located to the entrance of the

Timezone is always crowded due to its number of customers who fall in line to purchase their

powercard load, the proposed service development for Timezone is to develop and install a

kiosk loading machine to lessen the crowdedness in the entrance. Timezone will put two Kiosk

Loading Machines beside the entrance of the game center. This will help the customers to

purchase their powercard load in the most convenient way. Timezone will install 2 Kiosk

loading Machines beside the entrance of the Timezone.

Timezone Fun Rewards

As Timezone values and prioritizes their customers, Timezone will start to introduce the

‘Timezone Fun Rewards’. Timezone Fun Rewards is a loyalty program strategy which can be

availed when customers purchase a minimum amount of 200 pesos. The Timezone Fun Rewards

will contain 6 stars, wherein customers must spend a minimum amount of 200 pesos for six

times and all of the stars will be converted into a reward which is a 200 pesos powercard load on

their 7th visit in any Timezone branch nationwide. Timezone will issue a reward card that is

made of carton, together with the star stamp which will be redeemed every 200 pesos spent.

Customers would have the chance to earn rewards for visiting the amusement facility. This will

be done at the moment that the customers purchase their powercard load in the cashier.

B. Sales and Distribution

For the Sales and Distribution of the proposed Service Development Program

First, the Kiosk Loading Machine is applicable to all branches of Timezone nationwide. It will

provide fast and convenient service to all its customers and branches as it will lessen the time

needed for them to wait in line to load their Timezone cards.

Second, the Timezone Fun Rewards is also applicable to all branches of Timezone nationwide.

All of their consumers will benefit to this strategy as the Fun Rewards offer free loads that

everyone can enjoy.

Overall, both The kiosk loading machine and the timezone fun rewards are beneficial to branches

of Timezone in the country.

C. Advertising and Promotions

Timezone Fun Reward

As part of its advertisements and promotions, Timezone will also post promotional

displays inside the Timezone and also in the entrance of Trinoma, Ayala Malls which is located

near the MRT North Avenue Station. The Timezone Fun Rewards promotional display will be

posted inside the game center which could help Timezone to inform the customers that they have

a loyalty program. Timezone will also be posting a promotional display at the entrance of the mall

to give an awareness that there is a Timezone Branch in trinoma which is located at the 4th level

of the Mall. Additionally, Based on the Timezone’s employee, promotional posters doesn’t

include any rental fee, they just have to ask for a permit from the admin of the mall.

such as facebook and instagaram which could give an awareness regarding the promotion since

most of its target market are more inclined with different social media platforms nowadays.

Increasing the engagement in facebook and instagram, are one of the methods that Timezone will

apply to gain potential consumers. These two social media networking sites were chosen mainly

because they have a great number of users everyday. A regular postings and advertisements of the

Timezone Fun Reward can improve its brand recognition which could gain possible and/or

potential consumers.
