Lesson Plan

Aim: Review the English literature in the Renaissance and the Neoclassical Period.
Key Vocabulary: Renaissance, Elizabethan Age, Neoclassical Period, Restoration,
Augustan Age, Age of Sensibility.
Sociocultural activity: Books’ Fragments
Recycling: Prose, Poetry, Drama
Materials: Video beam, laptop, pieces of paper
STARTING THE CLASS
Tell students we are going to be working with the neoclassical period in English Literature.
Tell them the class will include a competition (with a prize for winners), so they have to
participate to win points.
Make a brainstorming with the students about Renaissance using a picture as reference.
Time: 5-7 minutes
PRESENTATION: The Neoclassical Period.
Step 1: Show them a timeline and explain briefly literature’s evolution in England.
Time: 2 minutes
Step 2: Tell them about the English background and ask them why it is important
Time: 1 minute
Step 3: Ask them to explain (briefly) why the next period is called neoclassical. Talk about
the Neoclassical Period, the context and its division (among the presentations, ask
questions).
Time: 10-12 minutes
Step 4: Ask them what is the relationship of Charles I and the new king. Do a review about
The Restoration, the context and its literature.
Time: 3 minutes
Step 5: Do a review about The Augustan Age, the context and its literature.
Time: 3 minutes
Step 6: Do a review about The Age of Sensibility, the context and its literature.
Time: 3 minutes
PRACTICE
Step 1: Play games (explain the rules of the quiz)
Time: 2 minutes
Step 2: Explain them they have 1 minute to read it and answer to the question
Time: 8-10 minutes
Step 3: Do the analysis exchange.
Time: 2 minutes
Step 4: Make a brief feedback.
Time: 3 minutes
FINISHING THE CLASS
Give the prize to the winners and talk about how literature can adapt to any period
Time: 2 minute
