LESSON PLAN

Teacher: Merlin Mathew Grade / Class: 6 (A, B & C) Dates & Periods: 1ST June 2023
Subject: Physics (Science)

Key Words: Gravity, weight, contact force, support, Astronauts, experience, mass, object, centre, arrow, measuring, downward, upward .

Learning outcomes: To apply Newton’s law of motion to define gravitational field strength as the force acting Planned differentiation activities:
on an object per kilogram of its mass. (How will SLN / Gifted students be catered for? )

Success Criteria:

I can identify and define weight that acts on an object with mass.
I can calculate weight.
I can state a brief explanation on weight and its gravity pull with few real life example.

Starter (5-10 mins): Start the class with ‘DO NOW’ slide with a starter activity.

Student Led Activities: 5 -6 objects will be placed on the table. Students need to identify those objects and answer the questions given below. (STARTER ACTIVITY)

a. Identify any two things that is heavier than an apple?

b. Write any two things that is lighter than an apple?
c. Differentiate and write one point each on one light object and one heavier object.

Main Activity (20-30 mins): A slide on space will be displayed on the projector. Students needs to identify the keywords and topic for the day. Teacher will be taking
students to explore on few terms like mass, force and gravity and how these terms are related to our topic “Weight”. A video on weight will be shown, followed with a
small explanation with an interactive session with kids. After the explanation peer activity will be continued in class.

Student Led Activities

Differentiation based activities worksheet will be distributed among kids based on the topic “Weight”.

Plenary ( 5-10 mins): Quick recap of the topic will be conducted in class i.e., short quiz on the topic explained will be conducted in class, where the classes will be
divided into two group.
21 century Skills (): Creativity Collaboration Critical Thinking Communication
Resources : Soft toy, paper weight, feather, bottle, soccer ball.

Sultan Al Neyadi (astronaut) is on Mission to Space. We recently visited a “Call from English, Math, Geography
Space”. He displayed that there are no terms like gravity, weight, mass or force.
In Earth, i.e., as we are in Alain, UAE we can feel mass, weight, force and gravity pull
